Hi from a new member

Hi from Berkshire, U.K.  I'm about to become a first-time Skoda owner, should be Wednesday next week if all goes to plan. I've had a Passat estate for the last 20 years and finally accepted that the next MoT will re quire too much work. After dismissing several estate makes and models I arrived at an Octavia as the most practical out there. As I keep cars a long time and also do a number of short journeys I wanted petrol to avoid future DPF problems. And although I've never owned an automatic I was considering one this time but was put off by potential long-term reliability reports of the DSG Box so I've stuck with a manual to keep things simple and hopefully reliable! Anyway, I've settled on a 65 plate 2016 Octavia SE estate 1.4 150PS manual.

Hello grovest welcome to Briskoda , enjoy your new motor .B)

Hi grovest, I am also a first time Skoda owner and we have both make similar decisions about the appeal of the petrol 1.4 Octavia Estate except that I went for an auto. Enjoy your octy when it arrives. I am so far.

Thanks for the welcomes!

Findldu, glad you are enjoying your Octavia. I dread changing cars, after 20 years with a good reliable one I tried to do a bit of research to find something that might prove reliable and economic to run for a good few years. I was wondering if I had made a good choice, but reading through the forum it appears I may have! I test drove a saloon to get an impression of the engine/gearbox and I was impressed with the pull of the 1.4 especially considering its in the £30 road tax bracket.

Hi grovest, I have been reassured somewhat from reading some of the forum that 1.4 petrol is a good motor and also for me that the DSG auto has improved in reliability. I don't do a big mileage these days but it will make the driving easier when I have to go long distances. The bonus of £30 tax was a factor in my decision. Let's hope it continues long term. Hope it goes well for you.

A warm welcome to the Forum Tom !

I finally picked the car up Wednesday afternoon, and it's very nice indeed! A 65 plate 2016 Octavia SE estate 1.4 150PS manual in silver. It has 36k on the clock and is in excellent condition for age and miles. And coming from a main dealer it has a year's warranty and full dealer service history. It came from the Leicester branch and was shipped down to my local one. I'm impressed by the refinement and performance of the 1.4TSI after my ancient 1.820V Passat and the radio works!

My only niggle, and it's a personal thing, the Leicester dealer has put the Firestone spare tyre on one of the wheels and three Apollo's on the other wheels as the original Continentals must have been pretty close to the limit judging by the present spare. So four Cross climate+ will be transplanted on to it tomorrow.

So my first question is... tyre pressure monitoring, it this done with a transducer in the wheel or by measuring relative rotation rates of all the wheels and looking for an anomaly?
