Front headrest removal 2016 L&K

Featured Replies

Is it possible to remove the front passenger headrest on a 2016 L&K 280?  I can't see any release buttons where the headrest goes into the backrest, and the owner's manual only seems to mention the centre headrest on the rear seat.

The front headrests in my car have a round button on the left side of the headrest itself to adjust the height, rather than the tab at the base of the 2 steel rods.

I want to collect a couple of  2.7 metre fence posts, and it will be a lot easier with the headrest removed.

Here you go...

It's an Octavia headrest, but the principal on the Superb is the same.

Thanks. I wonder why they hid the release levers under covers?

I guess they're an integral part of the cars safety systems, it's probably just Skoda's way of discouraging owners from removing them.

Are they not active head-restraints then?  I thought nearly all "modern" cars have active ones these days - perhaps I'm wrong.

Yes, it is likely they are...

"Active Head Restraints is a system that comes into action only in a rear-end crash. The inertia caused by an impact from the rear presses the upper body into the back of the seat. This movement triggers the back rest and lever, which bring the headrest forward automatically to decrease the distance between head and headrest. This reduces risk of injury by preventing stretching of the neck vertebrae. Once triggered, the system can be reversed at no cost."

If the headrests were easily removable i.e. without first having to remove the cap covering the removal tabs, then it is likely AHR isn't fitted.

If the caps are there then it means you have Active Head Restraints.

They've been fitted to Skoda's (optional on early cars) since the launch of the MkII Octavia back in 2006...

Thanks, that all makes sense now.

Picked up the fence posts today, so took the headrest off. I didn't need to prise off the plastic covers, just pushed the seat cover down a bit, then pressed the latches with a medium sized flat screwdriver.
