Tailgate jammed.

Featured Replies

I place some bags in the rear of the car and closed the tailgate before driving home. On arrival I am unable to lift the tailgate as it wont unlock....just an electrical sound when the release is pressed. When I look inside the boot I can see that a strap has been trapped right in the centre of the tailgate lock. Im unable to release the strap and also cant open with the usual method by inserting a screwdriver into the recess in the boot trim, engaging the mechanism and pushing down. Happy Days NOT.

Hi Breezy, I hope  someone on this forum can suggest a fix. If not looks like a trip to your local Skoda dealer....Jim

I cant think of any way around this. Annoying that a small canvas strap can lead to the tailgate jamming in this way.....Im not sure how they will be able to remove it.

Lets hope they have a fix and that it can be done under warranty, after all it's something that could happen to anyone. But then again, it's Skoda we're talking about!

Cant see that being a warranty job to be honest. What were the chances of that strap being in the exact position to jam the locking mechanism.

Same thing happened to my Ibizia, when I pressed the button I gave it one big tug and the boot opened.

No way mine was going to open with a big tug.....just took it to dealers (DM Keith, York).Service Manager ‘Steve’ got inside and removed some trim below the lock mechanism which allowed access to the mechanism. He was then able to remove the strap, replace the trim and I was on my way in twenty minutes with a handshake and no charge.
