Superb III spare wheel kit

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First post on here as we have recently bought a Superb III combi 2.0TDI 150 as the family/my wives car. Its a 2017 UK import business model which doesn't come with a spare wheel (not sure if the Irish models do as I hadn't checked in any of the ones I viewed). I planned to get a spare wheel from day one but of course after not having a proper puncture for about 8 years I had one on the motorway a long way from home on a sunday night late and as the tyre was ripped it wasn't even worth trying the gunk.

Anyway I'm planning an order from superskoda for a few bits and was looking at the spare wheel kits. They have a 16" set and an 18" set (link to 18" set http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/SUPERB-III/Superb-III-original-Skoda-kit-for-spare-wheel-change-18´ which looks to include all the bits and a way to screw down the spare etc. Issue is the car has 17" wheels and as usual the dealer stuck on a set Chinese ditch finders on the front of the car which I planned on changing for a set of proper tyres shortly so rather than throw away the tyres I plan to get a steel wheel for one and use it as a spare. I assume the spare wheel kits above are designed to fit inside the wheel and  was wondering if they are sized to fit the different sized wheels (i.e. the 18 inch one has a bigger inset than the 16inch) and if so would the 16" one work with a 17 inch wheel ok or would it be just falling around or is it secured in some way? Thanks.

Hi

The standard skoda spare wheel is 205/55/16 as my wheels are 19" my spare wheel is 125/70/18.The 16" foam insert will move in your 17" wheel but the wheel is held in place with a large plastic nut and the insert is held in place  with a strap through the wheel. You can't go wider than 205 as the boot floor will be raised up my 18"foam insert is deeper to compensate for the 125 width

Hope this helps

Thanks, I hadn't thought of the wheel height. My wheels are 215/55/17 so I'm assuming they wont work so as they will be too wide? That is a pity if it's the case as it would be handy to use on of the basically new tyres on the car as a spare when replacing them.

Other than that once the insert fits I think it would probably ok, as the strap should hold it in place and if not I can always find something else to secure it a little better..

From looking at some other discussions on this looks like it’s easy enough to just raise the carpet on the floor all round with some spacers and fit in a 215 tyre as the spare so I will look into that a little further.

You could alway look for secondhand variable floor then leve it at raised position which would bring it level with load lip.
