Upgrade from Mk2 1.6 TDI to Mk3 1.0 TSI 110

I am giving my 1.6 TDI 105 to my wife (now has 100,000 trouble free miles and is properly run in!)

 

I really want to upgrade to a new Fabia 1.0 TSI 110, but do about 25,000 miles a year mostly on motorways. 

 

Has anyone else made the transition?  I love the way my 1.6 TDI was effortless on motorways and just cruised forever. 

 

Any comments or thoughts gratefully received.

I went from a Peugeot Diesel 5 door hatchback to a Skoda Fabia petrol 5 door hatchback back in 2016.

 

Just come back from a 700 mile trip this week from Dorset up to Lancs and Yorks.

 

I would have the Fabia petrol every time. I have had it for 34. K miles now.

Smoother, quieter, faster and still returned above 60 MPG. No regrets here.

I've been a diesel head for near all my life and I went to the 1.2TSI 110ps engine. They go so well and I didn't miss my diesel at all. Plus it was faster! Fuel worked out nearly as good depending how you drive.

They drive a lot like the 1.6 although more powerful and I average 60mpg on my commute. It’s more than happy on the motorway especially the 6spd MC version. I love the fact it has the slightly notchy gearbox feel just like the mk2. 

Like the others report. I went from a 2l Yeti Outdoor DSG to a Montecarlo 1.2 Tsi DSG and was pleasantly surprised at just how good it is. It cruises fine on motorways and has ample power. I thought I'd miss the grunt of diesel, but I don't.

I love diesels and my last three cars have been diesel. I changed to petrol to help save the world.

My car is the Fabia Monte Carlo Combi 1lt  TSi 110PS 6-speed manual

It handles well, pulls well with just two of us and camping gear (did I mention the extra boot space?)

All in all very pleased but I do miss the diesel.

The only 'gotcha' with modern small capacity turbo petrol engines is they are not very efficient at higher loads when diesels still are.

So basically if you drive sensibly you can get some great figures, not so if you have a heavy right foot.

Previously had larger Diesel engines (2.0 Toyota, 1.5 Ford) and really liked the way they pulled. Now own a 1.0 110 TSi and thoroughly impressed - will sit at 70mph all day on the motorway and return at least 55mpg on a long journey, often a lot more.

 

Will be swapping the car in around a year and whilst I may get something slightly larger, I'll still stick with petrol.

I had a Fabia SE 1.0tsi 95 ps yesterday as a courtesy car yesterday whilst I had some squeaky springs looked at on my Octavia SE 110ps TDi. The Fabia was quiet and very nippy and fuel consumption seemed okay. But it didn’t feel like it would last forever like my Octavia and the interior is nowhere near as classy either. But I was impressed with the refinement of the engine and low down torque. 

Just to add my two-penneth, a few months ago I downsized from a Superb 2.0 TDi to a Fabia Monte Carlo with the 1.0 TSi 110 engine and 6-speed manual gearbox. Having covered 5,000 miles already, mostly motorways and A-roads, I've found the car to be an excellent and comfortable cruiser, with excellent performance considering the small three-cylinder engine. I've covered 500 miles this week and averaged a (measured) 58 mpg, driving at "realistic" motorway speeds.
