Featured Replies

Comparing notes with my colleague.He has (lucky sod) an immaculate 1984 911 Porsche Carrera.

Stats? 231 bhp porsche from a 3.2.180 bhp for me from my 1.8.If I finally go to jabba,should get the same.

Top end for the porsche,150 me,about 146 (alleged).

0-60,shade under 6 for him,me in the 7's.

I really want his car.Just amazes me how things have come on though.Apart from new porkers when I can't work out whats new about them:O

Double the BHP ?

... how about handling which is getting better and better with each evolution.

Re: your intial comment, I know what you mean - the average saloon car can now be very rapid & almost too rapid for normal use which means that genuine "performance" cars like a 911 don't seem ridiculously far away (i.e. BHP etc) ... until you drive one and realise that despite the figures they are a completeley different animal. :thumbup:

Its getting more and more about how a car's chassis can put the power down than how much power it has on paper.

Plus I'd imagine the Porsche delivers a much greater area under the curve too. :thumbup:

:rofl::rolleyes: here we go again...............

I doubt that very much given how early the remapped 1.8T will hit max torque.

There isn't a tongue-in-cheek smiley so I went for a --> :thumbup:

Perhaps a :rofl: would have been better.

Yup, a re-mapped turbo engine gives an almost flat torque plot and probably uses a lot less fuel than an old Porsche (which is probably not as healthy as when it was built 22 years ago anyway). 20 years of car development is bound to make a big difference, but I'd still like to drive an old Porsche.

my octy used to whup my 996.... but i still seemed to enjoy the porsche.....

I think you'd be less likely to park your Octy in the hedge backwards mate!

I think that Porsche was called the widow maker lol

Let's just say I'd enjoy driving either the Porsche or the Octavia vRS :thumbup:

The Furby vRS is great too, but it's a different type of car, the Octy is more all-out-sports-car (IMHO, etc etc)

In the sense that it's a warmed-up family car that still remains comfortable and practical?;)
