Mk11 to mk111

Featured Replies

I fancy a change as I have had my car 4 years now. It's a 2012 vrs estate diesel on 70000 miles.  I have been looking at mk3 Octavia scouts, I just dont know what to do. Anyone had any experience with the mk3 scout?

What I would do:

1) Is there any function or spec on the mk3 that want/need?

2) Do I need to get rid of the diesel?

Answers:

No to BOTH = keep what you have

Yes to (1) = get a mk3

Yes to (2) = get a mk2 vrs/scout petrol on lower mileage/better spec

I have been disappointed with how solid the mk3 is.  My mk2 was so much easier to work on and was better built, felt more sure footed and the parts were cheaper.  I should have gone for a late mk2 rather than an early mk3.

MkII and MkIII . Yes the Golf springs to mind, another disappointing Mk III by VAG standards.

My wife usually inherits my cars,

I had the Mk3 and she had the Mk2.

When it came to change we where both in agreement. The Mk2 is a better car especially if running for a number of years out of warranty.

So we sold the Mk3 but still have the Mk2

Looks like I will be keeping it then, to be fair it's been great, just thought I'd like a change.

The Octavia is a big car with Mondeo levels of space.

Yet the entry level model weighs in at 1170kg.  My First Mk1 Fabia was 1250kg.

I think the weight saving went too far as did the cost cutting on components and this adversely  effects Noise, Vibration and Harshness and to some extent reliability.

MQB has all the tech but  quality has not improved.

Went Mk2.5 to Mk3.5 - can think of no reason why I'd take the older car over the newer.

I know I'll miss the heated leather seats come winter, but otherwise the Mk3.5 is a better car in every respect.

Mk2.5 to mk3.5? Is that the youngest in each model? Thanks for the feedback

I don’t have any experience of the mk3 Scout, but I’ve owned a mk2 Scout and a mk2 1.9 tdi estate. I now have a mk3 1.4 tsi estate and there is no way I’d want to go back to a mk2, mines even got heated seats as well ! The mk2 Octavias were great cars but I don’t recognise the criticism levelled at the mk3 by some of the posts on this thread.

Apart from a few backwards moves - I still prefer my Mark 3.5 over my Mark 2.5, to be fair the 2.5 was a great car and still is but I wouldn't go back.

Backwards moves / poor design:

No right hand foot rest for when you use cruise.

Bonnet release requires the passenger door open (a right PITA as I keep mine the the garage and it isn't easy to open that door).

Headlight removal = bumper off - mind I have LED Headlight so hopefully that is never required.

Pluses - Infotainment, technology updates - LED lights are awesome.

Sorry - 2.5 was the Facelift Mk2 and the 3.5 being the Facelift Mk3.

Halogen bulbs are replaceable through the back of the light unit so no bumper removal.
