Oil pressure warning light comes on above 1800 rpm

Featured Replies

Hi all. New here. I have a mk 1 fabia classic. I had the head gasket done 1k ago. Then recently the oil pressure warning light came on. The odd thing is that it only comes on above 1800 rpm. There is plenty of oil and after lots of hassle I got the mechanic to check the oil pump pressure. 5bar. Oil filter, oil pressure switch and oil changed. I also got him to blow the oil way between the pump and oil filter clear. Still the problem persists. No unusual noises from the engine. Not sure he really knew what he was doing. Has anyone come across this problem before.

Cheers Pete

Check that the wire to the pressure switch is undamaged.

The cluster electronics doesn't look at the state of the pressure switch below 1500rpm, so that may explain why you get the warning only at rpm above that.

What year is the car, and how many miles done?

It could be a dry joint at the green connector on the cluster PCB. Common on early cars.

Hi wino.

The wire to the switch got broken when he removed the switch so he replaced the connector. Interesting about the rpm.

The car is a 52 plate with 91k on the clock. Where is the cluster PCB located?

The instrument cluster, speedo/rpm gauge etc.

That's interesting. Very occasionally the petrol gauge stops working until I switch off and back on again. Sounds as if its in the same area. I will have a look later in the week. Thanks.

No problem.

You can get enough access to get a reasonably good look at the solder joints without completely disassembling all the needles off the gauges etc.

I have a photo somewhere of one being examined. Will add it tomorrow.

Magic. Thanks.

I have got the panel out and will have a play at work tomorrow. Out of interest what is the sensor on the front of the block next to the oil filter. Is it an oil level sensor?

Pete

Oil pressure, no level sensors on UK Fabias.

Cam sensor?

I prefer my golf mk2. Nothing complicated.

Which engine? Loved my carb 1.6; probably the best car I'll ever own.

1.6 golf driver. Changed the piece of **** they call the pierburg 2e2 for a weber 32/34. For a g reg it goes like **** off a shovel.

Haha, I liked the 2e2. I was one of the few people patient/odd enough to figure it out and get it working 100% (under RJ's wing).

Number 1 = camshaft sensor

Number 2 = oil pressure switch.....
