Tailgate problem ( solved)

Featured Replies

I've been having trouble with the powered tailgate on my car.

On pressing the trigger on the fob, the tailgate wouldn't allways operate. At the open position pressing the close button on the tailgate wouldn't allways close.

The recesses had a little amount of muck in them, which I cleaned away, and this seems to have solved the problem.

similar thing happened on the rear windows which wouldn't operate till I cave them a good clean.

Hope this has been helpful.

When you say recesses do you mean where the piston part inserts into the strut part like the traditional silver usually into black on oridinary hatch backs? Certainly on my Octy I can see crud build up on the black end where the silver end goes in and out.

By recesses I mean the bodywork from the roof to the boot floor a couple of inches wide.

IN  fact cleaning hasn't solved the problem.

It's not working again.

any ideas?

Oh I see. There are a few writeups in here, do a search.

The problem is these struts are known to cost about 1k. That is more than most people are willing to spend. Going back to manual boot is something a few have done. Some say water ingress into the actual strut maybe the cause. I am sorry I don’t know much more. My ones could go on my S2 at anytime.

Thanks for your input.

certainly not prepared to pay £1k to put it right.

i'll just have to put up with it!

@richard999
Am sure you can just retrofit the original gas struts back on if the problem becomes worse
About £40 the pair.
