ODB Fault codes

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Got a whole bunch of fault codes on my car!

Started with:

P001D: https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p001d-obd-ii-trouble-code-a-camshaft-profile-control-circuit-open-by-jamahl-walker

And now have:

P0407 https://www.obd-codes.com/p0407

P2463 https://www.obd-codes.com/p2463

So obviously a bunch of issues! I had the cambelt changed about 15k miles ago, when it had to be done (car is now on 110k).

Car drives but in limp mode because engine management light is on.

I barely drive the car, but annoyingly need one! I do roughly 300 miles a month (picking up my daughter and pootling about at weekends!), so my driving of this diesel car is probably what causes the issue as all short trips. I used to do 20k a year motorway miles in it, which is why I bought it. I should really sell the car and get a cheap petrol runabout, and I may well do this, but won't get as much if it's not fixed first.

I have an MOT due at the end of this month. Will it fail with the above? Any thoughts on price to fix the above issues? I expect the DPF fault will be fixed with a good motorway blast once the limp mode is fixed because of the first issue!

Cheers

David

Looks like EGR/DPF issues which won't be helped by short journeys:

Given one code suggests the DPF is full of soot, you should stop driving it until it's resolved. If it gets too full of soot it won't be able to regen and you'll need a new DPF which isn't cheap...

Might be worth getting VCDS or similar hooked up to give you more insight.

@pikpilot - based on their old posts, I think it's a 2010 1.6 TDI.

Depends what the cause is...

Looks like the code reader isn't VW/Skoda specific so it's just giving a general OBD code which *could* have the following are causes:

- Bad camshaft sensor
- Bad crankshaft sensor
- Damaged wires to the camshaft sensor
- Loose or broken timing chain tensioner
- Timing belt has jumped a tooth due to wear
- Time chain worn out
- A loose or missing harmonic balancer bolt
