intermittent vibration to shuddering between 1,800 - 2,000 rpm vibration to shuddering between 1,800 - 2,000 rpm

Intermittent slight vibration all the way to shuddering  between 1,800 - 2,000 rpm.

When driving at about 1,800 rpm from time to time the revs will increase to 2,000 rpm and then fall back to 1,800 rpm and continue doing this in about a 2 second cycle.

This is much more common than the vibration or shuddering.

Less frequently while the rev are at the high point (2,000 rpm) the vibration will occur.

Some times the vibration will develop into a full shuddering, this shuddering will shake the car and will even travel up to the staring wheel. At this point it is like very badly balanced wheels.

I have been having a problem for some time now (about a year) and it has been getting worse.

I have had the car in several garages, who have done several things including running the diagnostics (no fault ever found)

Any help to resolve this would be very appreciated as it is driving the wife mad.

Is the vibration speed related or rev related? Ie does happen at a speed in all gears, or in a rev range in all gears?

It could be an out of balance drive shaft or the dmf is going.

The surging revs sounds like theres either a boost leak (split pipe), sticky turbo vanes (look at the "mr muscle" thread) or the MAF is throwing bad readings.

@lorna - Off the wall answer, based on advice from ZF Transmissions (and being ZF trumps being a motor manufacturer here). Get the transmission oil changed. Skoda say there's no need for this, but ZF say every 40_000 miles.

Missed the auto bit...  :blush

@ Macllirl

It is rev related, always about 1,800 - 2,000rpm in most gears. not noticed it in 1st but then its not in 1st for long.

it's also rev surging related, only happens when the revs are surging.

Yes it's an auto.

The surging started happening a very long time before the vibration/shuddering (at least a year)

Get the transmission oil change done... as Ken says, if the manufacturer of the gearbox recommends doing it, then it should be done...

The surging could easily be related to the autobox too.. it could solve all the issues, or at least eliminate the most likely source.
