Favorit Brake discs

Featured Replies

Hi All

Anyone in the UK bought any late model Favorit brake discs recently?

Just got some from Euro car parts but the offset all wrong and when I put the caliper carrier back it clamps on the disc locking it solid.

I supposed to be going on my European trip next Thursday so only really got one more chance to order the right parts otherwise cutting it very fine to replace and get the fluid changed and bled

Cheers

Wes

seems like its different discs depending if a car was built before April 1994 or after. Mine was registered June 1994 so guess it could be either..Is there any way I can find out the build date?

Thanks

Wes

There is someway of finding out the build date, what that is, I'm not sure about unfortunately.

Could you not just measure the diameter and offset of the discs that were replaced and get your parts man to look them up? Or just ask them to get you all options for the Favorit and return what isn't right. Most motor factors would be happy enough to do this and the discs shouldn't be overly expensive. Plus if you're short on time, it saves having to go to various places multiple times.

Also, for changing the brake fluid, get your self a little pump up pressure bleeder if you haven't got one already. It makes life a lot easier if you're having to do it on your own.

Hope you get them sorted, best of luck.

Cheers. I think I might have to. All of the online retailers seem to be selling the part I have bought. Will have to try and find local motor factors and keep everything crossed. Sadly most of these places near me in London have long since closed

Ah I didn't realise that there wasn't many of them still about. I suppose most folk use the internet now. Hopefully you'll find somebody close by who can find the right ones for you.

Thanks. Hope so. Should have probably sorted them sooner but of all the work I had to do I thought the discs would be easy!

Having a quick go at looking up ECP discs for years 1993, and even 1992, only yield the one part with "Date from 04/94" in the fitment details. Seems like they may only do the latest version.

If you're not in a tearing hurry, there are some genuine discs on eBay that are a match for the 01/93-03/94 part number https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-GENUINE-FRONT-DISCS-SOLID-FOR-SKODA-FAVORIT-1-3-1993-95-REF218-115430212/183821049591?epid=1533725505&hash=item2acc969ef7:g:dI8AAOSwoDlb12kr

Three different genuine part numbers for different date ranges shown here, in case useful: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/favorit+form+pickup/fav/1993-107/4/407-407000/

Mintex  aftermarket equivalent appears to be MDC876, may be easier to source locally? Came up as the second result on an eBay search for the 115430212 part number.

Cheers. Yeah I noticed that on ECP.  Looking at those part numbers the early ones and the late ones pull up a dimensioned drawing but unfortunately the middle ones don't!!

I think that late Favorits used same discs as Felicia.

I suspect that is what I have been supplied.  but seems like it was April 1994 that this became the case. I suspect mine must be pre April 1994 as those later parts don't fit

So your disc is 3mm too deep and you need shallow one?

no other way around. Its too shallow. so when you offer up the caliper bracket it jams the disc when you bolt it up.

Managed to find a set of Mintex MDC876 from local motor factor. Twice the price of the ECP ones but needs must. Need to order them in but the dimensions seem correct

Thanks everyone for the help.

Yes, you're right, Felicia discs are shallower, according to ATE catalogue. I looked at wrong pictures.

this brake job is fighting me every step of the way..Was supposed to be the easy job. New discs coming tomorrow and seem to be correct dimensions but now just noticed the Eazibleed caps do not fit the reservoir. What a pain. I am guessing the only option is to buy one of those useless looking universal caps or go for the manual method , which I really don't like doing on old seals. Think I am out of time for the buying a spare cap and Schrader valve option 😞

Ah that's a pain for you. The Favorit must have a slightly differently shaped opening than other cars does it?

Another way you could do it would be to get a device similar to a spray gun that has a small pipe attached and draws the fluid through into its pot. If you don't have a compressor then a hand pump should work as well.

not sure. guess it must. It almost fits. if its the wrong size its a tiny amount. Fits over the opening but just won't catch the threads

Would I not have the same problems with vaccum bleeder of needing a cap that fit?

Edit

Ah I guess you mean those kits where you don't seal the cylinder but pump a vacuum at the bleeder valve. I did read they could pull fluid around the bleeder valve threads and cause more air to get in

I can't say I've ever been aware of that happening. Certainly never enough to make any difference.

That's no problem at all, I just hope it helps you.

Even if you were to get the new fluid drawn through with the vacuum pump and found the pedal was a bit spongy still, you could bleed the brakes again by pumping but you wouldn't be pumping so much and not putting so much stress on the old seals.

Best of luck anyway and good luck with your trip! Is it today or next week you go?

Ah, surely there's no need to be nervous!  As long as the car is fine and you're happy with what you've done to it, the trip will be brilliant.

I still have fond memories of tramping up and down the country in my old Felicia after I got it and it just handled it like it was nothing. And even better I remember not feeling super tired after driving for hours on end in it. I'm sure the Favorit will be the same!😁

well I think the car will be doing more miles in a week than it has in ten years!  So long as the main bits hold together I am sure i can bodge around any other issues!

This might ease the stress.
