Although there maybe some cases like your 10 minute journey where sufficient temperature is not achieved.

 

In 10 minutes of slow speed, light throttle, stop start even a petrol is going to struggle to get sufficient temperature built up.

Your average speed is a bit low so you could try not using the brakes, carry more speed through the apex, try not to clip the kerb, and anyone considering a 503bhp Alfa really shouldn't be worrying about fuel consumption. You probably don't have any roundabouts on your short commute (unlike the 14 each way for me) but if you did you could try lifting and coasting 400 metres out which saves me quite a lot of fuel. Also try and keep revs between 2,000-2,500rpm rather than your usual 5,000-7,000rpm operating window. Don't really know why I bothered with the last 2 sentences but someone else might benefit from the information just not High Speed 17.As for the 115C oil temps this could be useful to cook your eggs on the bonnet when you arrive at Postman Pat Central assuming you start early enough for breakfast.

Try using gears other than 1st and 2nd?

How the hell do you get as high a 'green' score as that?

I've got the same 235 PS4S's as you & I can assure you, there just isn't anymore apex speed to be taken, even with my DCC doing its very best. I know this as my Crew Protection opens all the windows to 35mm & pretensions the seat belts for imminent impact although, the seatbelts are not as tight as my arse cheeks when this happens.

 

You're right as always though, only 12 roundabouts on my A & B road commute but, 5 sets of lights, 6 if you count railway crossings but, I generally skip straight over them

Believe it or not @Gerrycan I'm very gentle on the engine until the oil temp hits 75C then....... well I reckon you can figure it out !!!

Saw a white Fiat 500 go through 2 sets of RED traffic lights today. It was early so driver who didn't even touch the brakes didn't see the traffic lights or was blind drunk from the previous night. No wonder I couldn't catch this powerful little car.

Walking to the pub last night with SWMBO and in a small village with a 30mph limit 2 motorbikes rocketed past us racing each other at between 60-70mph (nutters) and irony was just half a mile from the pub Police car was hiding in a layby ignoring these dangerous riders probably waiting to stop someone leaving the pub around closing time. Obviously under instructions to ignore speeders but stop pub goers.

Well I guess this thread answers the question I've been asking myself - 'I wonder what it'll realistically do Mac on a decent run?'

 

I've been fair impressed that my 9-10 mile commute with an average speed of ~24mph is getting 35-38mpg.

 

Most I've seen out of it so far is 43mpg, bit it seems to me it's the motorways and cruising where it makes the high average.

I can be averaging 25mpg over several miles but if I get a couple of miles on a motorway that'll shoot up to 35mpg or so easy, so must be getting about 50mpg on that part of the journey.

After 5 miles of urban my average is 26-30mpg but another 5 miles on the motorway and my average climbs upto 40mpg and another 12 miles (total 22 miles) the average is 44mpg.

Yeah, I can definitely live with that... I'm used to getting 25-30mpg even on a good day/run, so now getting high 30s on my commute and high 40s on a decent trip is huge.

 

Gains like that are way more significant than silly high diesel economy figures imo. 

Contrasting 3 days for me. Saturday going home from work 44.3mpg on the maxidot, Sunday a bit of Track workout and unscheduled light off-roading gave 9.7mpg and back to work today (Monday) and 42.5mpg.

What chance does a stationery police car have at catching up to two sports bikes? 

 

If they really were doing 70 in a 30 it's entirely likely the officer wouldn't have had time to even read their plates. Better to just radio it in and stay on your objective. 

 

I'd argue a drunk driver is much more dangerous to other road users than a couple of bikers speeding.

They hate drunk drivers. UK police all spend at least part of the early careers on duty where they are first responders. That means they see - among other things - the effects of dangerous driving up close and in the flesh. 

And possibly they didn't perceive the bikers as going so fast.

I was thinking more the mass of a bike, I'll agree speeding can be just as dangerous, but I would think most fatal accidents involving bikes it's mostly the biker's that die.

 

I'd also argue a lot more people speed than drink drive which would skew the statistics slightly. Impossible to measure the ratio of speeders who have a fatal accident against drink drivers who have a fatal accident. While you get a fair few people who are happy to acknowledge they speed; you'd have to be a special kind of idiot to brag about drink driving.

Statistics are available to show that of the 1,700 odd road deaths per year in the UK 25% (about 425 annually) are caused by drink/drugs at illegal levels.

But how many drink-drive and get away with it?

 

You can more closely find the figures of speeders vs accidents related to speed.  Drinkers vs accidents related to drink is very difficult to pin down.

This is something that I think needs  changing

 

Convicted Drink Driver Kills another driver in a crash.  £500 fine, band from driving 3 years, prison 4 years ( out in 2 years ) 

 

Man/woman murders a person.   Prison for Life ( Supposedly )

 

If you knowingly get into a car over the limit  Drive and kill someone the sentence should be the same as murder.  Life
