Repair options for OE Geminis

Featured Replies

After the collectives views on how to address curbing on the cut/faced part of the wheel that is perfectly placed to get hit on OE Geminis. As of yesterday 50% of the cars wheels now require sorting 😞 it was only a matter of time... It wasn't me btw. Damage isn't massive but def needs sorting at some point as car is PCH.

Cheers

Lots of refurb places around that have the ability to do a full cut and refinish job.  Mine aren't diamond cut but intend on using these guys some time in the next 18 months.  Not too far from you.

Thanks!  This is exactly the sort of suggestion for a local place I was after, just down the road in Basingstoke.

Certainly from the website they have the equipment to potentially refinish that curbed edge to make it look as new it would seem.

I know the Daneshill Ind Est well I used to live in the area v close by about 20 years ago! :)

Now since my lease runs until early Nov 2020.. when do I take the plunge.. both left hand wheels need doing. Actually my Mrs told me immediately and apologised.. since I expected it to happen (sadly) she was ok with my reaction of ok as long as it was just parking at slow speed which it was.

No worries.  I own mine so not time limited like you.  Probably best to leave it as late as possible while keeping an eye on the condition?  May be worth reading up on the terms of your deal as the repairs are not cheap so the penalty from the PCH maybe more cost effective providing the wheels haven't crusted to oblivion.

Yes you raise a good point it might be cheaper to pay VWFS than the wheel refurb place, thanks for that reminder, I must try and review how they assess damage. Have some tiny paintwork items on rear door edges interacting with things they shouldn't to get addressed eventually too. You're seeing a pattern here I have to deal with that extends way beyond cars - I look after my stuff even leased stuff lol

done this on all four and using them as my winters, £300 for welding (as the PO had left deep gouges on all four wheels) then diamond cut and finished in piano black.

Personally if I ever have to have my Geminis refurbed (I hope I don't and is a big reason I 'downgraded' to them) I'd just get them in one colour.

Sure the diamond cut is nice, however the design and colour of them (most are anthacite) means I don't think a single colour would detract from them.

It's about half the price and arguably you can then get it done again if you kerb them again without it being so painful.

I got the wheels on my Honda refurbed in powder coat last year, £50 a wheel.

The Extremes I think need the diamond cut, the geminis are ultimately just a spoked wheel which will look fine.

Easy if you own the car.. not so easy if you don't - zero mods allowed on PCH and car will be assessed for damage at the conclusion of the agreement. Refurbs will need to look 'stock' OE basically for me.

Ah, yes, I forget about the whole lease/pcp/hp thing as I've always just bought my cars.  Oops.  Ignore that then...

I've just had to do an emergency stop and sling it into reverse fast to avoid being hit by some stupid bi7ch in a Merc AMG who tried to drive on the wrong side of the road, the result on graunched rear driver's side wheel, luckily I  just missed a post, no bodywork damage but nasty damage to the rim.

Will post later. I don't know if it's repairable yet or whether to wait and see if I can get it done when I swap my wheels over for winter ones.
