2015 Octavia VRS struggles to start some days

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm still relatively new to this forum so apologies if I have posted this in the wrong area and or if there is a relevant post already to this problem.  I apologise and ask if you could point me in the right direction.

Basically folks, I have recently purchased a used (very clean well looked after) 2015 Octavia VRS that has 78k on the clock. Seemed to run and start fine for a while,  then, after I'd had the car for around 2 weeks, I noticed that sometimes upon trying to start the car it would really struggle and turn over for around 5-10 seconds before actually starting! It will always start eventually but it seems to be struggling before actually firing up. Also, it is keyless so does not require a key in the ignition as there is no ignition barrel. The weather is warm and the glow plug lights go off pretty quickly so I'm ruling that out?? Just been told to try my other key fob? Could this work or is it something more sinister?

Thank you in advance for any replies. Scott.

There is a known software fault that causes this behaviour. Mine is the same. If no fault can be found, it’s probably just that and it’s nothing to worry about :)

It's well known and is often referred to as 'injector drift' where the engine over cranks before firing up.

My 2013 vRS did it regularly even with the VW bulletin fix applied.

My 2015 vRS does it, say, 1 in 20 starts.

I spent hundreds of hours researching it and it's really common, and not believed to cause damage.

You've no danger of starting the engine prematurely as it's a push button start which is designed to crank "once ready" (unlike a manual key start where you can override the start procedure).

They all do it. No harm. There was supposed to be a software fix but my dealer denied all knowledge of it.

Thanks a lot for your help and information guys 😎  I will get it on the computer this week and see if it can be resolved. Il sleep much better tonight knowing it's a common/known fault.

Thank's again, Scott.
