Unplugged sensor on drivers wheel

Featured Replies

Unfortunately this is a "what is this" kind of question. I don't know if it's important or what it does.

Location: drivers wheel at the front (RHS)

Car: MK1 classic

Theres no wire anywhere dangling in the wheel well. To make things interesting there isn't one on the other wheel. (no plug at all)

My guess: I haven't a clue, but it looks like it connects to the brakes! :D

Looks to me like the brake pad warning sensor cable. The other end goes on the pad. When they get low you get a warning on the dash.

It is a brake pad wire

How odd, I thought UK Fabias didn't have pad wear sensors? Looks like maybe someone has fitted a pad that has the wire on but not cut it off. Slightly puzzled as to why the car has the proper bracket for the wire though, unless they all do?

They don't, the mechanics left it on instead of snipping it off.

That's interesting, thanks! :)

Yeah I just edited my post. Didn't know the bracket for the wire was there though.

That's for the ABS wire, no idea why it's not clipped in there.

Same bracket for all markets so they all have the slot for the pad warning wire.

Cool, cheers Ross.

Also a common part across the rest of the VW Group small car range, and many Polos had brake wear included for at least UK market, but not on the later 6C Polo, so one thing less to go wrong.

So it is, my bad, nearly derailed the entire thread!

Absolutely, no one ever does that, do they?

I know, I should be much more concerned about anal detail and legal arsecovering than I am, just too damned gung-ho I guess.
