Service kit/consumables recommendations

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm a bit late to the party having only just buying a Mk1 Fabia.

Its a 56 plate VRS with low mileage and I plan on having it maintained by my friend who is an ex Ford mechanic.

Can anyone please recommend the best oil and filters etc to go for please, and also where to get them from?

Are there any other things worthwhile checking/looking for when we start?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

You must use oil that meets VW 505.01 or 507 spec. Other than that get whatever tastes good and smells nice, I prefer Mahle filters because they're the best.

Thanks mate, I'll look into them, cheers

Have used Mahle/Knecht and Bosch filters last 12 years for my petrol Fabia with no issues. Pfct balance for price/quality.

From "closest to OE", ahaha, some preffer only Mann, but Mann in Latvia is overpriced.

Used Mann only once (engine oil filter) and that was last time: zinc-plated edge (where filter attaches engine) totally rusted after 9 months.

I know, it has no influence on filtering quality, but expected more from that well-known brand.
