Ceramic finish ..... how do you keep it clean?

Featured Replies

My Fabia came with a suite of treatments to keep it sparkling, all I have used so far is the Ceramic finish shampoo.

If it gets onto the windscreen it leaves marks which are a nuisance. How do you get rid of the drying marks, shammy

leathers are too expensive nowadays.

*By the way there is a caravan cleaner that does

the same water repellent job (hydrophobic) Fenwicks Bobby Dazzler.

Best to use a slightly damp microfibre cloth. But, make sure to use a large 'Auto' one, not a household cloth. They are different. It dries the car really well without any scratching.

I tried a New damp sponge, it looked promising but then the sun went from hazy to full on.

I will see if I can get some info from the makers (looking for a freebie)

Strongly recommend NOT using a sponge to do any kind of paintwork cleaning. They are too abrasive and will leave swirl mark scratches in the paint and damage the ceramic coating. These days it's all microfibre cloths, but only auto ones.

Microfibre drying towel specifically for vehicle cleaning.

What treatment did you get (brand)? As a general rule of thumb most manufactures (not all) usually produce a range that will compliment each other. See if there’s a quick detailing spray from the same brand. Don’t rub the car to dry it, remove  the majority of water by draping a car specific drying towel over the horizontal/flat panels and (like a matador) pull the cloth across the panel, the weight of the cloth and no pressure will minimise marking etc. A watering can or hose without a nozzle can also help by just allowing the water to ‘sheet off’ the panels.

Then just blot the drying towel on wings, doors boot etc and then, panel by panel, use a quick spritz of the QD spray and wipe with a clean soft cloth. I usually have two on the go, one to work the QD spray and another to gently buff the panel. Don’t go in circular motions, side to side from the top of the panel downwards. Save sills and lower bumper till last.

That should minimise any marring, halo’s etc and also prolong the life of the ceramic coat. Asking the person who applied the treatment might be a good place to start.

Oh and better still; wash the car with two buckets and use grit guards. A good wash mitt is worth it and give the car a good hosing before you even touch it will minimise damage, snow foam...even better!
