Superb 2.0 Diesel 4x4 Engine cut out

Featured Replies

Tonight After and after a long run in yesterday in heavy rain my superb MK11 2.0 l DSG 4x4 started, missed a few times, spluttered then stopped, Tried to start it with no luck, went back half an hour later to try again and after about 5 seconds of cranking it started, spluttered once and then started running perfectly normally again, ive tried it a few times since with nor further issue.

I can vaguely recall it doing something similar about a year or so ago, has anyone else experienced this or know why it happens or what the fix is?

It's never had it's emission fix so can't be to do with that.

Seems very odd.

Have you had the fuel filter changed recently?

Had the same problem when I replaced mine once for some reason it didn't seal perfectly first time and done this for a couple of days after first installing😡

Could be faulty turbo too, they usually start when you either remove the boost pipe or undo the oil filler cap. Or could be EGR stuck open, block off at head with a piece of coke can. Or could be fuel pump in tank or by the fuel filter.

Shame you did not get the emission software update as you would have all the components mentioned covered by a two year warranty. They could fail anyway as you may have experienced regardless of the update, you could roll it back after two years are up. I would get it booked in straight away for the update, turbos are expensive, as too are EGR valves especially on a 4x4 as they are a PITA to remove on the floor with just a jack.

I've heard horror stories from my clients that they have suffered breakdowns after the emissions fix was done and their MPG went down as well....that's why i was hanging off as i need reliability in my vehicle.

Its not done it again since so im hoping it was just bit of gunge in the fuel line.

Those cars would have had the problems if the update was done or not. I have seen it time and time again, the ones with the update get their turbos, EGRs, injectors, pumps etc replaced at Skoda expense, the others have to dig DEEP, I'm not a gambling man myself.

Look at your recent problem, IF that turns out to be the early stages of a sticking turbo, or your EGR is about to fail, or your HP fuel pump is starting to wear causing swarf around the fuel system which will require it all to be replaced, I think the cost of genuine injectors are around 500 GBP each and you have 4, the HP fuel pump will be close to 1000, the lift pump and boost pump will be half that. These are all things that can fail EVEN if you don't have the update.

Why take the risk, your car cuts out again in the next few weeks and your turbo is dead, the dealer will rush you 1200 plus fitting plus VAT for a new one.

I didn't want mine done at the start, but now they are covering 11 odd engine items for two years following the update under the trust-building measure, it's a no brainer. You can always have it rolled back afterwards.

Just hope it was a bit of air in the fuel and you haven't left it too late.

I read someone on here had an EGR valve fail, he erased the code round the corner from the workshop, got the update done and they paid for his new valve when the fault returned.  He was lucky the fault wasn't static at the time of the update or he would have had a big bill.
