Dead locks not working

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a mk3 vrs and it appears that when i lock the car with a single press from the key fob ,the doors lock but the dead locks do not engage. I get the safe lock message on the display and the led flashes seven times and then flashes once every couple of seconds. The problem is the doors can still be opened from the inside. I tried sitting in the car and locking it and also by leaving a window open and reaching in and operating the door handle just in case a seat sensor or motion sensor had picked up someone in the car.

Looking at the drivers and passenger doors there is a soft rubber grommet with a drivers sized key slot covering a nylon button also with a key sized slot underneath, didn't want to mess with these as I'm not sure what they are ?

The OP is talking about the front doors.  You won't get child locks on those doors.

Sorry about that, i looked at the picture and did not even do that properly and never read every word.

when u lock car doors open only from inside or from outside too?

If they don't lock with key fob may be the same problem as mine recently.. dead motor in door lock mechanism. It could be also problem in wires between door and chassis (wires in that rubber seal between).

I can open the doors from the inside only, all external door handles including the boot are locked. I think the nylon buttons maybe to release the door locks when the doors are locked in the open position, they are located on all doors.

Has anybody else checked this on their mk3 Octavia ? A friend of mine has a mk2 and his doors dead lock and can't be opened from the inside once the fob has be pressed. As my car is only 3 years old I'm starting to think this might be a safety feature rather than a fault ?

I believe this is the case, so occupants can get out of the car if it's involved in a crash.

The idea behind dead locks is that someone can’t feed some plastic strapping or a metal rod past the door seal, hook the inner handle and open the door.

There wouldn’t be a need to dead lock a vehicle with an occupant inside it and it won’t dead lock whilst in motion or running.

That said the crash signal sent out by the airbag ECU unlocks the vehicle and deactivates the fuel pump.
