Fabia 1 power steering pump

Featured Replies

Hello,

posted on here before about noisy pump

i took to garage and they hooked up to diagnostics, they found possible fault on angle steering sensor

they replaced complete pump, still making slight noise, nowhere near as bad as before, no light coming up or steering going heavy

can I ask, excuse my ignorance, I thought the angle sensor was completely different from the pump ?

the technician said he checked the steering rack and there were no leaks

do I still have a problem ?

thanks in advance

Yes the sensor is in the rack so separate from the pump.

Thanks for your reply

I am now wondering if they have misdiagnosed the problem

i collected it, drove home and it was making a little noise, I immediately took it back, the technician got quite abrupt because I did, he said it would wear in

to be honest I am not confident now

Hello,

sorry to be a pain

is there a guide on location and how to replace this please

to be honest, I am just fed up with paying money and the problem persists

The sensor it mounted in the side of the rack, held in by two screws.  Very easy to change.

Many thanks

i am going to see them tomorrow, just to see what they say about the problem.

here in Kent, it’s difficult, the very reliable Skoda agent who I went to for years, I bought 4 new cars from them, they lost the franchise because Skoda thought they were no longer upmarket for them.

having to rely on local garages, who, not being unjust, I don’t think they have the experience of the Skoda

Many thanks Tech1e,

can I ask does this have to be genuine Skoda part or is aftermarket ok

have spent so much on car recently

Not sure I’ve seen an aftermarket one.

However the sensor can be checked with VCDS.

they didn’t want to know

do you know rough price of genuine Skoda part

thanks for your help

Depends on if you have the single or twin hall sensor in the rack.

Thanks,

getting a bit above me now

can I ask, would a mobile mechanic be able to diagnose and repair ?

That would depend on the mobile mechanic

Hello,

Took back to garage today, they had brief look this afternoon, and going to take out wheel arch liner for further investigation tomorrow

It's two torx headed machine screws, you don't need to remove the arch liner, just chuck it on the four poster because it's a pain changing the cable.

Will let you know the outcome tomorrow

to be honest I am a little peed off with them, don’t seem to have much Skoda experience by the sound of it

It's a VW Polo, they must have seen hundreds of VAG cars identical to your Fabia under the bodywork by now.

Will see what they say

i kept hinting that the Fabia is known for problems with steering angle sensor, but didn’t seem interested in my comments

Good news

They have found intermittent fault on angle sensor cable, they are going to replace with genuine item from Skoda. 2 days delivery time

Problem then should be solved
