Auto braking issue

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have a 2018 Karoq 4x4 SE. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve had random warnings flashing up in between the speedo/tacho stating I’m too close to the vehicle in front. On each occasion there hasn’t been any vehicle at all in front. Travelling for work through the Tyne tunnel it flashed up again, (no car close)  then the warning triangle stayed on for the rest of the journey (fortunately a short couple of miles). When I returned to the car after completing work the triangle had disappeared.

Last week on a country road, 30ish mph,  no traffic, the emergency braking kicked in, scaring the bejeezers out of me and SWMBO. We were lucky that there was no-one behind us at the time, but even more worrying is that we were on our way to collect our caravan, and sudden, unplanned violent braking when towing is a big no-no, especially if it is wet.

Anyone else had any issues like this? The car is booked in next week for a dose of looking at, but it has been so random I don’t hold out much hope of them encountering the issue and even less resolving it.

You can change the responsiveness of the detection in  the settings and can even turn it off.

I do worry about such on-board technology going wrong out of warranty........that aside, I've only had one 'shout' from the device and whilst I was on the brakes before the computer acted I was grateful for the 'beep' as I was distracted and not paying full attention.

@Berisford

The Karodiaq has now replaced the VX Corsa as the vehicle I have most near misses with due to the driver being distracted with something or other (usually the central console).

I'm beginning to come to the conclusion the fitment of Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Braking et all is actually counter productive as drivers become more and more complacent and relying on technology to save them when they fubar.

No doubt the same was said of ABS and airbags when they began to become standard fit.

Some times mine will see something in the way as I reverse into the garage ! what I don't know? but it scares you when it slams to a stop:sweat:

Apart from that it has warned me a couple of times when approaching standing traffic but I think it's a good thing to have, it may stop the crash for cash buggers from trying to get you to hit them at roundabouts.:biggrin:

Get a dash cam, they're as cheap as chips these days. It will show the random emergency braking.

As long as you can show the fault exists it's their problem. None of their "no faults logged sir, bring it back if it gets worse" rubbish.

Yes I have a dash cam, a very good thing to have today. Good to replay some of the antics of some you meet on the road too :biggrin:
