2015 Octavia Estate SE 1.6 TDI CR 4x4

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Was browsing Autotrader, hoping for a decent deal on a Skoda (Have driven Octavia Scouts before on a few occasions and found them to be superb). I found a 2015 Octavia Estate SE 1.6 TDI CR at seemingly a good price - 37000 miles, dealer asking £9000. I've noticed that equivalent year/mileage petrol versions are £7500-8500.

I do approx 10-12k miles a year, so a diesel with DPF doesn't overly concern me, although my parents are dubious with regards to the diesel VED situation come a few years time. With the VED at £30pa i'll be saving £470 per year on VED and fuel alone over my current petrol car (taking into account a slight increase in my insurance premium). The only thing I cannot figure out at present is whether it is a EURO5/6 car. Wikipedia says the EA288 (CLHA) engine is Euro 6, the London ULEZ checker says not, and another online site says it is Euro6. I don't have the VIN unfortunately.

Can I have your thoughts on price and also whether it is Euro 6 or not without looking at the V5? Ford have their "ETIS" system which I looked my current car up on before purchase, which gave me all the individual equipment details - is there an equivalent system for Skoda?

Cheers!

I should add - the equivalent petrol versions + pricing is for non 4x4 models

Have found another similar spec car, at 35k miles, but a 2016 registration, coming with the android auto / mirrorlink functionality, the "winter pack", and also comes with MFSW which the other does not. They're asking £1000 more than the first car, but it's in Corrida Red. Has anyone got any ideas of pricing? Also is the Corrida Red likely to fade with the sun as red cars are renowned to do?

For 10k-12k miles a year I would 100% say get a 1.4TSi.

The 1.6tdi is very economical but it's noisy, feels pretty gutless and only comes with a 5 speed box in the manual.

They're definitely 6 speed manual boxes, unless the gearstick is wrong 😋 Did they ever do a 4x4 with a 1.4?

I'm going for a test drive soon so will have a feel - I currently drive a 1.6 98ps so it can't really feel any more gutless than that!

Depends what kind of driving you are doing, if most of it is going to be at over 40 mph without a lot of town stop/start driving the 1.6 diesel will do very well for performance and economy. I had one a few years ago and it could nudge towards 70mpg on occasion driven carefully, performance is fine when you're driving over 40mph, engine is flat and rather gutless at lower speeds. It does only have the five speed box which makes for a bit of a gap in the middle of the gear ratios, with third gear being nearer a true fourth gear and fourth gear being nearer fifth gear, which is something you'll be very aware of with town driving. PS If the 4 x 4 has a six speed box, that should make a big difference in how the car will feel!

Is there a way to retrofit the 2016 Bolero stereo (with Mirror link) to a 2015 model car, and retrofit steering wheel controls if it's got the 4 spoke wheel with plastic trim where the buttons would be? If so, how much roughly would it be in total?

Stereo is an easy job if a little convoluted and not the cheapest.  By Mirrorlink I assume you mean smartlink?  Mirrorlink (comes as part of smartlink) is not that great but android auto and carplay are both really good.

Cost wise budget £5-600 before selling the the old bits which may get circa £200 back.  You need to get the head unit (glovebox part) and new screen.  Head unit will need component protection removing by the dealer, then sending off for coding.  Most of us have used pab567 for that.  Then its just fitting which is straight forward for anyone who can plug a tv in.

MFSW buttons I think require a new gateway to function.  Cost and process I'm not familiar with I do have a spare set of buttons should you wish to go ahead.

I thought it wouldn't have been a simple swap and change - if the parking sensors and everything else hadn't been through the standard radio I would have just put an aftermarket android unit in as i've done with my current car.

I bit the bullet and bought the one that came with all the features I wanted - here's to many miles of trouble free motoring! Thanks for all the advice chaps/gals! You've not got rid of me yet :D
