Fabia 5J 1.4 brake disc/pad replacement

Featured Replies

MY daughter's Fabia 2009 1.4l petrol has come up with the "change pad " warning light. The pads still have some meat on them and the discs have only got a small rim. I looked around at EBC and Brembo combinations as the car is not the best at stopping. It is safe and stays in a nice, straight line, but compared to more modern cars it lacks a little.

I have 2 questions.

1. Can anyone tell me what disc size the 1.4 petrol would have? 256mm or 288mm?

2. Would EBC discs with red stuff pads be too aggressive and constantly get the ABS into action?

Your everyday brake discs and pads should be more than enough to stop your car in a emergency, I think you’d be going a bit overkill if you was to stick redstuff pads on them, I’m think I’m correct in saying they’re for a fast road use so they’d need to be warmed up before you’d get the full benefit of the redstuff pad.

Get a decent set of pads and you should be ok.

Has the brake fluid ever been changed? You’d be surprised what a fresh line of dot4 could do to her car.

If that 1.4 engine is the 16V 86PS one, that I'd think that the front discs will be 256mm, also if it had the 288mm discs I don't think that you would be commenting on the braking efficiency.

One way to confirm disc size:- does it have FS111 cast into the outer face of the callipers, if so it has 256mm front discs.

I'd just be grabbing Pagid discs and pads from ECP etc - and some ATE SL6 brake fluid if it has not had a fluid change for more than 2 years, and maybe some Ceratec brake grease.

Thanks,

It is the 1.4L, 86 BHP engine.

I will check the caliper .

It did have a brakefluid change late last year.
