Misty rear light, possible solution for models with factory sunroof

Featured Replies

Just noticed misting on inside rear light. Felt around for damp in carpets, but nothing seriously damp. Peeled back carpet from around rear light. Pulled sunroof drain pipe off from bottom, which came off quite easily and seems to only be push fit. Water poured out. Pushed my finger down into the round rubber receptacle for the pipe and managed to push out a muddy blockage. Did the other to make sure that was clear too. Offside is a tighter space to get your hand into position. It seems there's nowhere for water to escape from here so had to mop up with a cloth.

Oh, that is not handy, wife's old Polo had, I'm sure, a couple of drain points at the front of the sunroof tray and a couple at the rear, the fronts might have appeared in the car's frame near the front door hinge points as self sealing rubber nipples, same on the rear but maybe behind the wheel arch liner or just protruding behind that area.

Tweeking these nipples now and again normally stops this sort of problem as these self sealing rubber things tend to try to want to stay closed if not agitated now and again.

If you were lucky/stupid or brave, you would feed something down each tray drain point in turn until it forces open these nipples/valves, taking care obviously not to push the drain pipes off their tray spigots.

Edit:- push fit is good enough usually for these drain pipes.

Another Edit:- it is possible that wife's old Polo only had two drains and that they were only on the rear of the tray, my old Passat certainly had four drains, one at each corner of the tray - look and you will see!
