ABR bushes (need a little help)

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have an old 2003 1.9TDI fabia estate, and the front end rattles badly. I have measured the ARB and it is 19.25mm. I seem to remember reading that you buy the bushes the diameter of the anti roll bar minus 2mm i.e. I would need 17mm hole diameter. Is that right? THANKS Alastair

Sounds about right.

I buy the right size bush for the bar. Bar sizes are 17, 18 and 20 mm from memory.

...but they are undersized to allow for crush, I figured that was what was meant.

So the ones I see on ebay, do I get 19mm and assume they are undersized or do I go for 17mm that is definitely 2mm undersized. Or do I go for 18mm and split the difference. Only want to do the job once. THANKS Alastair

You get 19mm and assume it's undersized to allow for crush when fitting.

With reference to this page, items 10 and 11, this seems to be exactly the case (for genuine bushes anyway). https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2005-453/4/407-407010/

ARBs come in 18mm, 19mm  or 20mm diameters, bushes come in 16mm, 17mm or 18mm.

PR numbers correspond perfectly.

They wear themselves out to the size they need to be pretty quick anyway.

That and usually the arb is undersized where the bush goes as the coating wears off the bar. I’d be surprised if the collars haven’t cracked and wandered off by now too.
