Clutch master cylinder leak on new car

Featured Replies

Hi all,

So following an accident last week, where the other party has admitted fault to the police, my Skoda Fabia 16 plate 1.2 TSI colour edition with 21,000 miles was written off. My local dealership tried to find something in my budget (insurance have been a nightmare to wrangle with) but couldn't, so I picked up another 2016 plate Fabia TSI SE today, 21,600 miles on it, from a dealership about 70 miles away.

While driving home on the motorway slippery fluid starts leaking into the footwell from the clutch pedal. 😲

It had felt totally fine on the test drive, and on the journey home up til that point. Dealership seemed good, lots of customers, good reviews.

I couldn't stop because my Dad (who had given me a lift to collect the car) had whizzed off ahead, and never has his phone on while driving, so I carried on homebas aside from the dripping, the clutch worked. Called the AA to check it once home, and they said clutch master cylinder was gone but the garage likely wouldn't have been able to anticipate it?

I've then had to drive it, with AA following, to my local dealership to ask them to take a look at it on Monday when their service guys are back in. The same dealership I didn't buy a car from. Awkward. They weren't welcoming.

Anyway, the guys I bought it from said they did all the checks beforehand and it was fine but repairs will be covered under Skoda approved used warranty, not to worry.

But any ideas why this would happen on a car with such low mileage? And is it a sudden thing?

I feel like I've been duped into something dodgy. My old car never had a single issue and right now I just want to give this one back.

But, that would involve getting it 70 miles and still finding anither car.

Am I overreacting? Admittedly this last week has been pretty stressful and I've just dropped £7.5k insurance money on a car that immediately broke and I had to leave  at another dealership, so I'm a little peeved, might cry right now. Is it

 an easy fix?

Someone tell me it's going to be ok?!

I think you are over reacting a bit. ****, unfortunately, happens. It shouldn't be a major job. I can't understand your local dealer not being welcoming, it's a repair job that they are going to get paid for. You should be getting a courtesy car, that;s part of the deal.

I agree - It's not, or shouldn't be, a known or repetitive issue.

Just unfortunate and to date due to lack of reporting on these forum, I'd think an isolated incident.  I can't see why your local dealer should be nasty towards you, if they had had a suitable replacement car for you after that write off and at the correct price, you would probably have bought it from them, handy that it is a Skoda extended warranty you have so any Skoda workshop can sort it FOC.

@samfan121

Are you driving a courtesy car now from Skoda Assist or the Dealership?

What service history or warranty history has this car you bought got?

Full service history and a 12 month Skoda used warranty and MOT cover. I can get a car from Skoda assist.

That is not what i mean.

?

Do you have a print out of the Full Service History,

What is it,

a PDI and 2 or 3 Annual Services or 1 Variable / Flexible service, and what has been done,

and in the 21,600 miles has there been 'Warranty Work required'?

?

What and when?

?

Who was the Keeper, or more than one, a lease car, not a Rejected car by any chance?

They can only tell you what they know, but you have to ask if they are not offering that information.

All the best with it.

Oh, ok. I that I don't know. I know the dealership I bought it from sold it originally, and I believe it has been serviced by them once each year since. They did quote the mileages when it has been done.

I will speak them on Monday and ask for the full print out. And also my local dealership service team for their opinion.

Anything else I should request?

The Service Print out and the Warranty work if any will be good, and if any Service Campaign work.

Was there a Pollen Filter Change at 2 years?

Also about the Pre-Sales Workshop Safety checks, was there any Servicing items done then.

?

When is the next Service due & the MOT.  Is this an expense coming up soon.

Do you have to pay @ 3 years old for the Brake Fluid change?  Due then.

Oil Change £119 & MOT offer £39.

Brake Fluid Change £60 @ Interim or Major Services on cars on Fixed Serving, 3-10 year old.

Thanks Roottootemoot. Checked online, only one owner, no mot advisory when that was done in July. Fingers crossed it's just a one off unfortunate thing.

I also spoke to the dealership I bought it from again. Service team aren't in til tomorrow so can't send me the history yet but my local dealership would also be able to pull it off the system tomorrow.

Everything's just piled up like a bad movie over the last 10 days 😐. Hit on my way home with no warning by an idiot trying to cross three lanes of traffic, insurance left me at the roadside for 4 hours  and then made mistake after mistake resulting in hours on the phone when I should be at work, had to fight for a decent offer, ligament damage to my wrist so wearing a splint, finally buy new car in price range 2 hours from home and it has a fault before I even get it home. 😢

When you picked the car up you seen your footwell/clutch wet how was your clutch was it sticking at all? Also when you changed the master cylinder did this sort it out?

When I picked it up it was absolutely fine. It went while I was driving home. Now it's been fixed it seems totally fine again.

What im asking is was the clutch pedal sticking not realeasing back up properly when you was on your way home? Also what was the problem was it the master cylinder they replaced? I have the exact same problem but my clutch is sticking also

No, the clutch wasn't sticking. The first I noticed the problem was slippery fluid coming out from behind the pedal when I pressed it, but pedal itself working normally.  AA man said seal had gone on the cylinder, dealership who fixed it said the same. But the reservoir had been full, so pedal not too affected. Still able to operate.
