Superb 1.4 tsi wastegate rattle

Featured Replies

Seems a bit excessive to me... what are the options to quiet it down?

Thanks for opinions folks.

Isn't there a clip you can buy to sort it?

Cheers, yeah Ive heard of those, though apparently the clip is not for the 150 PS ACT cars - though tbh it looks like it might help.
But, I think I have more rattle at the actuator end than the wastegate end, plus the back and forward motion on the shaft means the wastegate is a teensy bit open?

I don't know if the back and forward slack could be adjusted out with VCDS ?

Looks like every bit of that linkage has slop in it, the most important part is the shaft that goes through the turbo with the actual wastegate valve on the end of it, if that has play in the housing of the turbo I can't see any option other than to get a new turbo. The actuator rod and actuator you may be able to replace.

you can see it better here

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah it's like something I would have got a fail for in metalwork class when I was a kid. shaft and gubbins seem cheap as chips - not an issue in itself, more the tolerances seem defective.

Thankfully the shaft in the turbo housing seems tight, so am just seeing if it's something I can (should) bring back to the Skoda dealer seeming as the car is mine for less than a month, and it is audible.

I have a 2 year Skoda warranty on it. Shaft bits should be peanuts for them to replace, the electric actuator also has some play along the shaft axis and that would be more expensive.
Not sure what others experience (and opinions) with the dealers is? There's less than 20K miles on the car.
There is some audible rattle, a sort of old fiesta type noise 😉

Even if its just an annoying rattle for now, I would be worried about it getting worse and costing me in the long run, with that age and mileage I would be wanting it sorted out
