Idle Noise - Is this normal?

I recently got Fabia Monte Carlo TDI 1422CC 2016 model. Financed directly from dealer, 30,000miles. 

 

I've started to notice this slow cranking noise while I'm in the car. I can't really hear it when outside but hopefully from the video attached you can hear the slow ticking over. It's a diesel Fabia III. 

Makes the same noise when clutch compressed or decompressed and also when moving.

 

Not entirely sure if these are normal and hoping to get time to take to dealer if noise increases as feel like they may just fob me off at the moment.

Does it make the same noise when the AC is off? 

 

My 1.2 TSI (petrol) makes a few wierd rumbly noises when the AC is on.

 

It almost sounds like a bearing somewhere on the ancilliary belt is gone (or going).

Thanks for the reply, yes bearing in the AC was the culprit. New compressor required. In now for a warranty repair:)

I'm suprised they're doing the entire compressor, was there no option of doing just the clutch bearing?

Remember that none of these compressors have a separate clutch assembly, there will be a sacrificial coupling built into the drive pulley that can shear and save the rest of the auxiliary group from losing drive on compressor seizure, and that is all.

 

Pumping is controlled by a solenoid acting on a tilting plate so capacity is variable demanding on system requirements.

There was also signs that the unit had been leaking. It was all under used car warranty.

Ah fair enough, next time mine's in for a service i might get it checked out, the AC was really struggling last heatwave we had, and at some loads it sounds like a bearing has gone.

 

Occasionally when i first start mine up as the AC engaged it'll make a daggadaggadagga sound a bit like a diesel, if i turn off the AC by the button the noise instantly goes. Oddly, if i press in the clutch pedal it quietens a little but doesn't go away unless i turn off the AC, repeatedly pumping the clutch pedal makes it go away after a while too, maybe because its slightly altering the load on the engine enough that it stops making the noise.

I'd reckon if the bearing has become worn, so the shaft will have some free movement and that has sorted the shaft seal out, so leading to a leak.

 

I noticed when trying out my upgraded VCDS that my wife's car has logged a slightly too low fridge gas pressure, so it must be time for me to check its performance and add in some R134A - I've not checked it for over a year or so!

 

Edit:- maybe before loading in some more gas, I should check for leakage at that end of the compressor - oh bother, maybe!
