Full Size Spare Fits in the Wheel Well............

Hatch or Estate?

Thinking about doing this instead of getting a spare wheel.  When the front tyres are down to ~2mm, just buy a new Gemini and use one of the existing ones as the spare with the legal tyre on it.

Would just need the insert.  Did you buy yours or did your car come with a space saver and kit?

The foam insert came with the Space saver, I just cut the lugs off on the outside and cut about an inch/inch halve off the bottom to make it fit into the wheel.  If you can get an insert from an older Skoda octavia, before the days of space savers it should fit without the need to cut it. I bought the wheel from member " Call me Gaz " I had 4 new michelins fitted on the car so I used one of the OE Bridgestone tyres as a spare.

ps. My 245 is a hatch

Fame, fame at last 😁

Philographists, please form an orderly queue to the left please 😘

It was a ruse Andy.  I'm gradually going to sell you vRS bits, until one day, in a few decades, your car will be mine and you'll be left wondering how on earth it happened!

Good to know it fits okay though 👍

I used to wonder what the big deal is with spare wheels.

I've not needed to use a spare wheel since 2001 and I do 20k miles a year.

So I wasn't too concerned when I bought a car in March that just had a can of gunk.

Since March I've had two punctures that the gunk couldn't seal and both times I've been stranded. 😞

Maybe I'm being stupid here but what wheel is that insert intended for if you have to trim it to get it in a 18" wheel?

It sits on a Skinny space saver wheel On it, not in it

Ah, gotcha.

Why is one of the above recessed and one 5mm proud?  Are they different wheels?

Would it be possible to fit a full size "19 Xtreme with that setup, or is "18 probably the limit?

I'd take a punt and say Yes. The 19"s have a 35 profile and the 18"s a 40.  There is a little unused space still in the wheel well with the 18"wheel in place. Both wheels are 7.5 wide

It could be the tyre, I have Michelin PS4'S. Some tyres have a more pronounced Rim protecter

Based on that photo I thought so too 👍 - when I do the full Revo switcheroo, I'll be keeping one behind for the spare and chuck the other one with whiteworm away. Cheers for the suggestion

I'll nip out in the morning and measure the gap between the tyre and the wheel well, It's raining at the moment. Leave it with me

The rolling diameter of the 18" and 19" is essentially the same.  From memory it's something like 2mm difference in radius, which is within the tolerance of wearing tread.
