Bye Bye, Blackline

Featured Replies

said cheerio to this stalwart yesterday. My 2013 (62 plate) Diesel vRS Blackline

6½ years and 78,000 miles later - to the Cairngorms, to Cornwall and many points in between, including 2 holidays in Holland with the family and all the gubbins, and a visit to Silverstone.

Didn't miss a beat in all that time, not even after the diesel fix, (only thing I noticed was a 10% drop in fuel economy) and any issues had been inflicted by me (or SWMBO)

I changed colour and fuel, but "same again" in terms of model and those 3 special letters

got a pretty good trade-in, considering all the bits and bobs that the dealer pointed out would be needed before they (according to the chat) go on to actually sell it on, rather than just punt to the auctions, so if you see one that might be it for sale in Scotland, let me know.....Old.thumb.jpg.ce7d30666acb9beeb85e70c19aaa813b.jpg

Its a great looking motor, mine was parked next to an almost new BMW Estate the other day, and to be honest, it didnt look at all dated in comparison.

Mine is coming up to its 9th year with me now, and hit the 94'000 mile mark a few weeks ago.
Still happy to keep it as long as I can :-)

Any pics of the new motor?

how does it compare?

Just the one pic that i posted on the Mk3 245 thread

Nicer toys in the new one,  and the kids say the back seat space is bigger

I can't quite get comfy yet - though I'm not sure how long i took to find my best position originally in the old car.

Driving characteristics are different, going from the diesel to the petrol. There's no drama or urgency. Less of a push in the back, more a sudden realisation that you're at your desired speed already.

Feels a bit more keen on the back country roads I use on my commute, although it's early days in terms of finding new limits. Am looking forward to seeing the back roads better in the darker nights thanks to the newer, brighter headlights.

so, they've put my old car up for sale now:

they've changed the wheels - my shiny black ones were pretty badly kerbed in places.

If anyone is interested in the car, I see the photos don't have the rubber boot liner that I left behind, see if you can get it. PM me if you want to know about anything else.

I would say they have just had the wheels refurbished.

It also says PD diesel, were the blacklines a PD engine? I thought everything had gone CR by that point.

well, in refurbishing the wheels they didn't restore them to their original (OEM) black gloss finish, that's what I meant.

I think you're right about the PD/CR thing
