Best tyres for superb business 2 litre dsg

Featured Replies

Hi

just putting the question out

i have a 2 litre diesel dsg which I bought with four new budget tyres fitted

I have covered eighteen thousand miles and the tyres are still ok at the moment and have worn well but will need replacing some time soon

which good top brand tyres would members recommend for good wear handling and low noise based on your experiences 17 inch wheels fitted

many thank Eric

Michelin CrossClimate are well regarded around here, though I haven't had an opportunity to fit them myself yet. They're top of my shopping list when replacement time comes around. On my previous car I used Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance (205/55/R16) and was pleased with them: quiet and grippy and they wore well enough.

That's a good shout.  I've had several sets of these and they are a great tyre and IME better than the GY Eagle F1's.  Despite the eco naming they offer plenty of grip in all conditions, they wear very well and they don't drone.

I was getting 18-20K miles from the fronts on a remapped ~235PS TDI FWD car and I replace tyres with ~3mm of tread left.

I would go for Michelin Cross Climate Plus, or Goodyear Vector 4 season Gen 2

You have the time to shop around for a good price, and is better to fit good tyres (at a sensible price), than budget tyres at full price.

There is always going to be a trade off between soft and quiet and long lasting, and above are probably best compromise based on Northern Island climate, assuming you intend to use all year and not change with the seasons.

Cheers yes I will run the same tyres all year

+1 for the Cross Climates.

+ another 1 for cross climates but run them at fully loaded pressure saves the outer edges wearing so quick😊

+1 for Cross Climates, full set fitted on my 4x4, gives huge confidence and grip.  I also agree on running at higher tyre pressures.  If you haven't done so before I would also recommend budgeting another 70 - 100 quid on a full 3D 4-wheel alignment (Hunter pro-align or equivalent) as you may be surprised how far out of tolerance your alignment is, it will prolong your tyre life and give you a much more positive driving experience.
