Featured Replies

Hi just purchased an 07 Fabia Bohemia estate 1.4 16v.

just looking to hardwire a nextbase dashcam into the car just asking for advice on which is the best live fuse to use?

Any advice welcome

Use the same rated fuse as the 12V socket it would usually plug into!

I'd forget about getting from the fuse box. I've tried and I've given up on fishing a wire from the fusebox to the hazard switch area. So next best is the wiring to the ciggie  socket/ ( or in PC terms ,the power socket) - something I'm looking into as the ciggie socket is permanently on. At the moment my dashcam runs off of a homebrew multi socket from the ciggie socket. At present it's a double socket arrangement( socket for my dashcam and another for a double USB). I've tried multiplugs from motor factors etc and for low power thy are ok, but for anything a bit heavier they melt (as I found out one day when we went out and took the car fridge to keep milk for the cuppa ,cool). I'd say for a solid socket thy are better than the multi sold in car places. And a lot cheaper. I got mine from e bay ( also sold as sockets for marine use.

Point to know is that although dash cams state they have a bump sensor( I've got a Nextbase 312) - it's possible to have a wing creased and the bump facility fail to pick the bump up-I know- been there had the T shirt .What saved me was that the bloke was honest( he had to be as several neighbours witnessed the incident).

ETA- IF hardwiring in a dashcam to the ciggie socket- don't forget to put in an in line fuse to drop the 15A suply fuse in the car to a lower ( say 1A)  .

I picked up a piggyback fuse holder to feed a USB DC-DC converter (to charge my phone). You either need a full size piggyback blade fuse holder of a "midi" one. With cable ties was OK getting the wires through to under the heater controls. I guess if mounting a dashcam in the rear view mirror area, getting it up the A pillar would be quite easy.
