Shuddering when accelerating.

Featured Replies

Hi .. I know you posted ages ago but I had the same issue yesterday and the car was shuddering when I accelerated. I was towed to nearest Skoda repair which is where I also have my service. My car is a 2008 although I took delivery 2009 .. so an older car but not supposed to be an issue for these work horses of cars. I wonder what your outcome was. I'm really concerned it's a major fix. I will also post as new thread but would really appreciate any info you took from your experience.  SilverSlippers

You do realise they're only golden, not crystal, right? We do need to know which engine you have.

Oh sorry! I'm 73 and not madly familiar with stats as I keep my cars a long time .. 13 years.  On the sales docket it says ..2.0 FSI Sedan. Engine capacity 1984.0. Is this enough? I can't see anything else that looks specific to type. Thank you so much. That was quick!

And its petrol not diesel. Many thanks .. big decision for me. I was hoping to have another few years, I don't do a lot of k's. I don't feel ready to downsize. I'd love another Skoda (preferably Crystal!) But this has rattled me .. even though 11 years of excellent service. Skoda will look today and I should know what I'm up for. Whatever.. they say they're fully booked for 2 weeks so I'll have to rent a car. Sorry to sound wimpy .. I'm a single woman w no family nearby. To be without a car is unsettling. :) Thanks for your time.

Ah, that does help; an 2.0 FSi is an Octavia 2 model, so you're actually asking in the wrong forum.

Anyway, general advice would be to put that detail (3 letter engine code if you can find it) in your car details, and open a new thread in the Octy 2 forum with as much detail as you can about warning lights, circumstances and symptoms.

Don't apologise about driving an old car though; mine is even older, but great at soothing away muscle aches after doing 12 hours days for 8 days in a row.

Have heard back .. its a "coil". Skoda suggested changing all 4 given the age of the car. I gave them the go ahead as they also mentioned they could do it today .. despite being booked out for 2 weeks yesterday!! Not looking a gift horse in the mouth ... thank you. $Au760 later I can collect my car tomorrow with a (relatively) clear mind. Interesting yours is older. If only we had a crystal ball. At what point does owning an older car with valid aging parts become worse than biting the bullet and getting a new one.

Thanks for your time .. it felt like I was not alone with this. I really appreciate it.  If you ever need help w a recipe don't hesitate to ask!

Well, thank you. I'm actually a pretty good cook, but a second opinion is helpful sometimes. For instance, I'm still trying to sort out a Scots-Sikh recipe for stovies, based on an idea by Tony Singh (yes that one) and his Mum.

In my view, replacing an aging car becomes necessary when costs to repair per year become twice the price of a replacement with a year's "roadworthy".

LOL LOL .. you know about cars AND can cook! I'm tempted to ask are you married .. but w me 73 and you possibly 22 that'd be creepy. Also sounds like we're at opposite ends of the planet. So Scots/Sikh could just be the epitome of fusion cuisine. Still turban and kilt look fine. I see your name is Ken, I'm Terri. I cannot "repay" your advice in any way except another big thanks. Particularly the above formula. I did freak out a bit .. other details were at play. It really helped that I had advice from a neutral party. I love my car .. it's my freedom and escape and work horse. I actually talk to it!  If money were no object I suspect I'd be a lot more involved with the details. It is however a big consideration. Thanks again Ken .. enjoy your stovies. Terri

Well, I'm 57 and single, but still I see that an age gap that size could be an issue... Also, my car and I talk as well.

Oh and British/Indo-Pak already is a thing. BBC Tv series "The Incredible Spice Men" is what happened when Tony Singh and Cyrus Tadywallah set out to add a bit of extra spice to British cooking; if you've heard of "chicken tikka masala", that's the result of one diner in Glasgow sending back tandoori chicken as being "too dry", and the chef responding by pouring the can of Heinz cream of tomato soup he'd brought for his own dinner over the check and nukeing it! The whole balti cuisine movement comes out of BIrmingham where they were looking to modify karahi dishes to suit British tastes and dining habits better...

This topic was initially tagged on to another in the Mk1 forum but been moved here as @SilverSlippers has a Mk2.

My apologies .. my first post to this group. I wasn't aware there was such a thing as "off topic" and thought I was replying directly to the person that answered. This is such a helpful place for advice and much appreciated. Will take some coaching on board!

You were, at least in that we were having a 1-1 conversation. The issue, which I should have addressed sooner than I did, was that the conversation is published into a web forum (the wrong one, or 2 different wrong ones actually originally) rather than into personal mail boxes.
