Replacing mid section of exhaust? (1.6 tdi)

PS. The round part in the photo of your pipe on the ground is the Catalytic Converter. The oval shaped part near the turbo is the DPF.

You're not the first person who has said that. It's pretty confusing!

One of the fault codes I was getting was related to the DPF differential pressure sensor, which is measuring the pressure across the big round can shaped filter... so that led me to conclude that that was the DPF. And it was definitely this one that was blocked.

I need to fix this part too - crack in lower pipe and also at lower junction to flexi.  So needs rusty pipe welding and also new flexi welding in.

Or replace with this cats & pipes part? https://www.cats2u.co.uk/skoda/843-skoda-fabia-16-01-11-12-13-diesel-particulate-filter-vwf177.html

Car has done 88K and no current issues with DPF - replaced pressure sensor a couple of years ago, no problems since.

So, best to weld up original and keep old DPF, or given time and effort in doing this, fit an aftermarket replacement instead - which of these will give least trouble over next few years? (I can see the repair is cheaper even though I can't do welding, but don't want to be back in same place in a years time!)

Hi Alan C,

You will have to remove the assembly to get it welded up properly. You could do it by lowering it but it would be extremely difficult and a bodgey job.

At £470 for the whole assembly and the time for someone to replace it (there we be a day in that), plus ancillary small parts you would be up for £1000.

If you can afford that, that would be the best route. You may get away for repairing the old for £600, and still end up with issues further on.

The new assembly should see at least 80k-100k miles. The repaired assembly could fail again in 6 months.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news,

TLee

Thank you - yes the replacement looks like the better bet - the lower steel pipe has corroded through at bracket fixing as well
