Skoda Yeti - 2015

Featured Replies

Hi, I am new to the Skoda Yeti Forum so please excuse any errors I may make.

I believe I have a Bolero infotainment system installed and I would like to change out the radio for a Sat Nav system. I removed the radio and the car iso harness appears to incompatable with various ISO sockets on the back of the Sat Nav units.  I have attached a photo of the car radio harness. Can anyone recommend what Sat Nav would be suitable please Thank you

What type of Sat Nav are you thinking of adding?
I would have thought there would be a harness adapter for most new double DIN Sat Navs.

I bought one from website which said it would fit the Yeti year (2015) but iso harness supplied did not have the two power sockets (top left on photo) so sat nav was not able power up. Another unit was sent. Same result. Have scoured websites for sat nav which show the rear of units iso power socket, which would show the two Male plug ( to marry up with the car radio iso harness) but have not been able to locate any photo of a sat nav which would fit.  I do know that the Yeti for that year offered a Sat  Nav as an option, but cannot find a used one on sale anywhere.  Any suggestions would be warmly welcomed. Thank you for your response.

That's a 52 pin quadlock. The MIB PQ STD2 style Amundsen as fitted from 2015 onwards Yeti would be the original fitment sat nav.

Older cars used a 40 pin quadlock. They would have used the older RNS style Amundsen, Amundsen+ or Columbus for navigation.

What Sat-Nav unit have you bought?
Have you been provided with the code for the unit?

Langers2k :-  Thank you very much Langers2k , for the useful information which I will check out.

Urrell: -      The Sat Nav was a 7" Android 9.0 DAB+ DVD GPS Sat Nav CD Player Radio For VW Golf V SEAT PASSAT #254215984563, which indicated on the website that it would fit:-     This item fits 1 version(s) of the Skoda Yeti 2015 5L [2009-2017] SUV 1.2 TSI:  . No I did not receive any code for it.

I will be sending it back as it turns out that it not suitable, as Langers2k has pointed out    My car was purchased in Dec 2015 and bears the reg year as '65' so I assumed (obviously wrongly) that it was a 2015 model!
I guess I will have to do a rethink about this situation
Thank you both for the  responses. Much appreciated

It’s all about getting the right harness, then almost anything will fit.

Thank you Sad555, for your advice.  I will see what I can find. As you rightly, say it's about getting the right harness (or the tight Sat Nav!!)

Ciao

Why is it wrong to assume it is a 2015 model?
I have a January 12th 2015 64 plate with the MIB Amundsen II, the Bolero is the same but without sat-nav.
They were fitted from post October 2014.

It will fit if you buy the correct adapter. This one should do...

Then again, I'm not convinced it's a blindingly excellent unit you've bought.

Hi Urrell,  I have done some checking with Skoda since last post and have discovered that the vehicle was infact a 2016 model, although because it registered in Jan 2016, it was issued with a 2015 reg year number (i.e ' 65 or 15 ) In addition, I have checked e-Bay for the Amundsen Sat Nav and found that a  unit was being offered: " SKODA YETI MIB STD2 SAT NAV with HEAD UNIT  5L0035680 "  which showed photos of the rear of the Sat Nav having the same socket on the back of the sat nav as the Yeti car radio Quadlock plug.  The cost is 399.99 Euros and the seller is based in Berlin, Germany!    There does not appear to be any GPS antenna with it.  I have attached a photo of the  rear of the unit showing the socket for car radio harness, so I would guess it would fit.  However, very nervous about it all!! What is your opinion?

That's a picture of a Bolero, same as you already have.

Specifically this listing which clearly shows a non Nav unit.

Hi Rustynuts,  I don't think it will because the the Yeti  car harness is a female Quadlock socket (see photo 1), whereas, the one you suggest (see photo 2) is also a female Quadlock socket.  What is needed is a Male plug (photo 3) to marry into photo 1.; and the corresponding end of the  harness   to have a female socket (unknown type)  connecting  photo 3  to fit into photo 4.  I don't think there is such a adapter available,, at least I have not seen one advertised anywhere.

Many thanks for your suggestion.

Without wanting to sound like a smart arse, the one I linked to is exactly the same as the one I hold in my hand right now. It's a converter from your cars 52 pin quadlock connector to the 40 pin Quadlock connector on the rear of the sat nav unit you purchased. Whereas the picture you posted above

2. Most Quadlock Extension Socket Cable Adapter for VW Audi Seat Skoda Vauxhall Aux.jpg

is a fully populated 40 pin to 40 pin extension adapter and is not what you need.

VAG models years (MYxx) don't tally with Gregorian calendar years which doesn't  tally with UK registration dates :)

MY14 cars will probably have 63 and 14 plates.

MY15 cars will probably have 64 and 15 plates.

MY16 cars will probably have 65 and 16 plates.

The model year is down to the build date so the above isn't always true depending when the car was registered.

langers2k: -     That makes more sense to me. Obviously I was mistaken. Many thanks for the explanation. Much appreciated.

Rustynuts:-    Hell No!  I don't think you're a smart arse !!   I appreciate your assistance in this matter.  It's just that I'm a real thicky!!.

Just to ensure that I have a testing of understanding of what is being said..     Photo  1 is from the existing car radio , which I assume is the 52 pin

(female socket) to marry into the rear of the Sat Nav  - photo 4 (which shows the 40 pin (Male plug )

From what I see from the photo of the adapter you sent, it looks as if  each ends of the adapter is a mirror image of the photos I sent.    Should                          not the pins on the Adapter 52 pin Adapter plug be male & the pins on the 40 pin Quadlock be female?    To ensure I have got it right, I have

attached Photo 1  (52 pin  female socket)  and Photo 4  ( 40 pin - Male pins)  in the socket based at the rear of the Sat Nav ??

Please clarify if I have got it all wrong. Many thanks again

4. New Sat Nav male socket.jpg

Be easier to understand if you called them "plug" & "socket" rather than male or female. The plug is the part on your car's wiring loom and the socket is on the car's radio. Once you've got that understood you're on the way.

You have a 52pin plug on your wiring loom which goes into the 52pin socket on the adapter loom. Then on the other end of the adapter loom is a 40pin plug which goes into the 40pin socket on the new Sat Nav.

I don't know about the other Yeti Owners with a built in Sat Nav, but if it were me...

I would go back to a Good quality windscreen mount Sat Nav.

Such like the Garmin Zumo range.

I find my one is never 100% right.

I have downloaded latest maps.

Last time out, we got sent almost 8 miles in the wrong direction. Kept saying keep going, although I knew it was wrong.

The only good point is the info on the instrument cluster.

Agreed, and if you can get a head unit which has Android Auto then use a smartphone SatNav app as the routing info will be displayed on the head unit. Otherwise (and much cheaper) buy a holder for your smartphone and mount it  so you can easily see the screen displaying the satnav App of your choice. Simple, quick and a selection of free Apps to choose from.

Thank you Carlodiesel & Expatman for your advice. Much appreciated.

Have you considered keeping the stock unit, and simply enabling Android Auto/Apple Carplay? I have the MIB2 satnav in my car, but I never use it simply because Waze via Android Auto is vastly superior to it in every way.

Thanks for the suggestion enor. Hadn't thought of that so will check it out. Thank you

That's possible, but then again you might find your Bolero doesn't actually have the required hardware for Android Auto and Carplay.

That's a good point Rustynuts. Will check it out.  Thank you

Did you check it out. I thought the systems in your model where compatible and you

just need to pay skids £140 or something?
