Buying petrol in France, Switzerland and Italy

Featured Replies

I'm driving down to lake Garda in northern Italy in a couple of weeks time, going via the Stelvio Pass.  I'll certainly need to fill up in France and was just wondering if there are any better fuels to go for, or ones to avoid?  The Golf's been run on Momentum 99, so far, so I'll go for 98 octane as a preference.

I've had a rummage on google, but didn't find it all that helpful and am more interested in real people's thoughts.

TIA

Buy the lovely 100 / 100+ Octane that will be available some places.

Where in lake garda area are you going? Was down there a couple of yrs ago, its beautiful, and relaxed, and the north italian drivers are much more... forgiving and patient... than their southern brethern..

Just your typical Alfa test drive, drive it like you stole it.:tongueout:

Anyway......

Don't know about driving from West to east,  but when driving through France from south to north,  I was a little surprised by how few service/petrol stations there were on the motorway.  Especially after driving around Spain for 30 months where they appear to be every 30 kilometres or so.

Not completed decided yet.  Mrs CMG's heritage is from Lonato, so South Westerly of Garda, but we're thinking of anywhere in a 20km radius.  With the exception of Cremona, as my boss will be there at the same time as I'm on leave, so we ain't going anywhere near there!

This looks similar to the website I used whenever travelling through France. I found it useful for advising not just on recent law changes, but current and future roadworks and what the best routes were to certain areas.

we've done 3 holidays (pre-kids) in the north of the Lake, and really enjoyed Limone (where we stayed) Riva and Malcesine

This is Riva (and the Dolomites beyond), from the top of the mountain (Monte Baldo) behind Malcesine
