Vandalised Alloy

Featured Replies

Although it could have been much worse, some oik has sprayed one alloy and and part of a brake caliper with metallic silver paint :finger:. Although the alloy now looks a bit cleaner I need to get the paint off the wheel, hub centre and caliper.

Anyone got any thoughts and good chemical - solvent of some sort??

anyone to the rescue?

how about paint thinners? could use some on a rag, but have the hose or a bucket and sponge handy, wipe on some thinner sparingly and then wash off straight away with clean water? I have done this once, but it was to remove paint from bare alloy after some bad masking up and it worked ok, I am not to sure on if it may dull the wheel paint a little though. Must be some guys around here that are experts in paint etc...

Possible suggestion is either isoprope probably not much use, but good for cleaning the other solvent off, or Methyl-Benzene (Celulose Thinners).

Only worry you have is what will happen to the other paint.

I would guess that since the alloy paint if cured and layered that if there is no damage to the alloy surface then you should be ok.

However!!! Try this on a small spot first to make sure it doesn't discolour anything, and certainly you are trying this entirely at your own risk.

Try some T-cut and/or polish on the wheel, that usually works, as for the caliper, just try thinners but be very careful and dont get any on the pads or the rubber boot surrounding the calipers piston.

Gentle use of pentane is doing the job. Thanks for the replies :)

If the caliper won't go back, have faith in the knowledge that they will be easier to paint than an alloy, I believe some people use a B&Q colour.
