They've changed it!

Mk2 ride is less crashy.

Mk2 quieter at speed.

Mk2 has better seats and better driving position

Not moving the handbrake to the drivers side on RHD models extremely lazy.

Sadly this seems to be a trend with VAG cars nowadays - even the Passat has fallen victim to it. I wouldn't be surprised if they attempt to do the same with the Audi A4  despite being a premium model - although they started this with the 2014 A3 where although they moved the handbrake - they didn't bother moving the radio volume dial from the right side of the gearstick to the left.

I loved my Mk2 Octavia for these small touches but was disappointed they didn't bother doing it with the Mk3

All that said..Still love my Mk3 VRS. Though I would prefer the extra effort. I'd pay the premium of €200 of whatever it may cost to build the car with the relevant bonnet lever, handbrake, stereo dials and the likes moved to the correct side.

The fuel flap position seems pretty standard on all Skoda cars in the UK but isn't an issue to me as I just park close to the pump on my left and lift the fuel hose over behind the rear window and have just enough room to fill it from that side and plenty of room for me to get in/out the car too. Handbrake position is just cost cutting but again not a huge deal to me as I can easily reach it. Bonnet release is definitely in the wrong place but again this is only an occasional nuisance as I very rarely open the bonnet at all, in fact I'm pretty sure that I've never as yet even looked under the bonnet of my current car since I got it in March but probably time to fill up the windscreen reservoir and give the oil a check. Think I must be getting old, the engine used to be one of the first things that I would look at any time that I changed my car in the past!
