  i have a skoda superb on a 52 plate,i have done 140,000miles.have had it serviced on time every time.then i started to lose my interior lights, then the lights under the wing mirrors.so i went to skoda,to be told i may have a problem with the main loom.I was told that water is getting in through the pollen filter, and has rotted the main loom.cost to be repaired

Common fault, also effects Audi A6 and VW Passat.

I was told that water is getting in through the pollen filter, and has rotted the main loom

You might like to ask them whether it's down to the pollen filter being improperly seated by whoever last changed it?

As Lummox said, it's a very well-known problem.

Welcome :) Please keep us updated.

Ross, C'Mon you could beat that price. No probs for a man of your experience.

im sure i will be chastised for saying this but with a 4 year old car with 140k miles on it i would say you have had your monies worth...

the car is worth more broken for spares than it is as a car.

break it. ebay the bits and buy a new one.

The pollen filter just sits in place, so I don't understand how it cant be fitted properly.

It doesn't seem sealed in like the air filter is.

Erm...

Good luck!

Perhaps before you cave in and admit defeat you ought to do a bit more research.

If some of the people 'in the know' who frequent these forums can make such statements as common fault then I would be doing more digging myself.

However, that said please don't go saying so and so from Briskoda told me...... as we have had one or two issues recently where advice from 'people in the know' has been quoted and said people have been chastised by their employers.

Good luck.

Personally I'd be trawling the scrapyards for a loom. Obviously the car is out of warranty? I picked up all the wiring looms for a whole vRS for around £300-£350 - thats the main interior loom, engine bay loom and the engine harness. :)

A Skoda superb in your engine spec may be hard to find, but I'd be putting enquiries on www.247spares.com and give www.skospares.com a ring as well. :)

try the CAB, they have been very helpful for me in the past :)

Screwfix direct promise next day delivery and do wire in lots of lovely colours, bet you could by yards of it for 2.5k :sofahide:

If you fancy brining it over this way i'd be happy to take a look at it for you.

I can remake the loom if needs be.

Ross
