Fabia 1.2 estate, 2006 starting issue

Featured Replies

Hi,

Our fabia 1.2L estate 2006 is not starting and Hopefully you can help me. We are in the middle of nowhere in Croatia which also dosnt help.

It is winding over, but not starting,  had 3 fault codes come up...

16686

16520

16725

It did start when we got in it but was running very rough, then died 10sec later.

I hope someone can help us, because we need it 😉.

Many thanks

Robert

There is a noise coming from the back of the motor (intake side furthered from the front) have never heard it before, sounds like something is trying to turn off. The noise happens once I try wind it over, and then turn the key off.

One of the codes (16725) is camshaft sensor. Might be worth changing that.

Do you have any tools available, or can you purchase something nearby?

Something that would allow you to remove spark plugs for a look etc.

Was it running without known faults before this? No warning lights, no misbehaviours?

Examine the brake servo vacuum pipe, especially either side of the non-return valve. A drastic air leak there might be an easy spot, visually or by feel. The hard plastic hose traditionally splits where it is stretched over the hose barbs of the valve.

Always missbehaviours! The misfire on cylinder 2 is a common problem that pops it head up every 3 odd months. The codes only came up when it wouldn't start, no warning lights, I just plugged the OBD in and got those 3. The noise coming from the intake is what I think is causing/reacting to my problem. Is there a valve in the intake that suits off when you turn off the engine? (More central left intake side if you look at it from the front) it's a funny noise as if something is struggling to close/operate.

I'm hoping to talk to a local mechanic/handyman tomorrow and they might have the tools/or ideas haha

Many thanks for any ideas/your time to help.

Thanks mate, yea I seen that. Hoping not to replace the whole car. Its only a ****ter and we do not have the budget to replace, and we are in the middle of a national park.

Cheers for your time though 😉👍

Thanks mate, the brakes still worked when I was getting a tow (obviously not very well as engine won't go) but I will definatly have a look tomorrow morning. If only got a crap 10 pound toolkit so a bit limited.

Not an ideal place to break down (middle of a national park in Croatia)

Thanks again for your help/ideas!!!!! 👏

Could this cause the engine to not start?

Probably not alone, but if there are also other problems it won't help if it is leaking badly. If you find it badly split, 'mend' it temporarily with tape.

I'm planning on changing spark plugs (and having a look around) and looking for leak. Need a jump start too as battery is getting from my excessive winding due to anger haha
