6k to spend on a superb mkii

Featured Replies

Hiya everybody!!!

not long joined the form! Great places I feel and have always joined when I have had a particular brand of car! 👋 👋

so...

6k to spend on a superb mkii elegance model.

been trying to do some homework on these..few questions below if that’s ok..

what model is best to go for diesel or petrol? And what size engine?

I have put some info below in order to help me.. if anybody could add to it or link me to more info that wold be fantastic!

Cambelt every 4 years or 90k-130k

On cars registered prior to September 2010 it is 4 years.

Those registered after it is 5 years.

Diesel cambelt

1.8ltr chain driven

Tow hook and dsg ( no go)

Dsg -

feel for any vibrations, juddering or reluctance when taking off and changing gear

Check heated seats

Check for any warning lights esp- abs lights

Check twin boot opening

Check that all of the electrical stuff works, especially if it's an Elegance spec model as it has a lot of toys.

  • Bi-xenon headlights should do a little dance on startup: down, out to the sides and back in, then back up.
  • Check that the aircon works: if it's dual zone check that it can output different temps on each side.
  • Electric seats have a lot of adjustment: again check that something moves when you press all the buttons.
  • If it has auto wipers, put the stalk in the intermittent position and check that they respond to rain on the screen: moving the switch on top of the stalk should change how quickly they wipe once activated.
  • If it has satnav, check that it can get a position fix.
  • If it has parking sensors check that they all work.

Also...apart from VCDS is there a nudge Obd scanner could buy when I’m going to look at one!!/

sorry it’s a massive post guys!!!

thanks so much.
