New Skod-er

Featured Replies

Hi

from sunny Northumberland. Just traded in my Range Rover P38 for an Octavia Scout estate, hoping it’ll do better in the snowy weather than my Jaguar.

Welcome. If you read some of the threads on here you will find that having winter or all weather tyres is more useful in the snow  than having all wheel or four wheel drive (assuming you didn't already know that). Regardless of that, the Octavia Scout is a fine car. Not as economical as the front wheel drive Octavias, but will be much better for mpg than the Range Rover and Jag, and probably more reliable.

Thanks for the welcome.

Yes, looking at winter tyres-probably the Continentals as they seem to do well. If I can find a reasonable set of wheels to fit, i’d Be happy.

regarding mpg, I get 45 from my XF Sportbrake, which makes it the long-distance choice plus it’s plusher. The P38 got around 15 mpg in normal use, dropping to 6 on a short (5 mile) trip to town!

the Skoda is booked for a checkup on Monday to report back to the vendor dealer. I suspect the n/s CV is noisy on lock, and the I/s front suspension has a rattle on rough roads.

otherwise, a good car,I think.

Welcome to the forum from another Northumberland member  :handshake:

45 mpg is not far short of what I usually get in my Scout, but it is the 184 DSG.  When you said Jaguar I was thinking of something more like an XJR.  I once got average 60 mpg in the Scout on a run from just south of Fort William to Glenfinnan, but that was by far an exception. My brother has an XF Sportbrake, and they are certainly very plush - a bit too plush for me, my wife and dogs. I have waterproof covers to protect the nice Alcantara upholstery and rubber floor mats to protect the original textile ones, plus a boot lip protector and rubber boot liner. It's a shame that Skoda and other car makers don't do interiors that are more dog-resistant.

My Skoda ‘s looking more like 30-35 although i’ve Only done less than 100 miles so far

The dog goes in the back of the XF happily, so no mess on seats. He’s been quite happy for long distances in there.

i’ve put a generic boot liner in the Skoda that I transferred from the Range Rover. May go for a better fitting one.

I think you should be able to improve on that when you have driven it a bit further, although you haven't said which model you have.  I wouldn't expect to see more than 30-35 from a petrol powered MK2 for example.

Would highly recommend the travall accessories. Ive got the dod guard, boot divider and boot mat in my superb estate and as they're specific for the car they fit brilliantly. Quite pricey but so well made. Welcome to Skoda!

1.8 TFSI petrol Mk 2.

MFD showing 35mpg over last 100 miles, but I’ll do the calculation when I fill the tank again
