Dashcam hardwire kit, where to connect?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

If anyone could help I'd be very grateful.

Ive just bought a Nextbase 222 dashcam and would like to hardwire it in.

Nextbase sell a kit and it looks like it comes with fuse type connectors.

Is there a spare slot in the fusebox I could use for this?

If not, is there anywhere else I could attempt to fit myself?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Piggyback fuse connector.... Need either full size or mini = The ones with the prongs not shovels. And NOT the micro ones with the blades shoved up the sides of the fuse.

Seller has all three types.

Pick a switched or permanent connection from here:

1 through 38 (39?) are mini. 40 onwards are full size.

Thank you, much appreciated.

I think the kit comes with 2 different sizes of piggyback connectors included.

Would you have an idea of a 'switched' fuse to use?

Cheers,

Rob

Next base cams with  ( from my chat with Nextbase tech) with th parking mode ( I've got the 322G ) switch on on entry/vehicle movement  . So a permanent supply is preferable( NOT a switched sup;ly). From Haynes ,there's only a few circuits that are routed through the "x relay " ( which allows power controlled  through th ignition switch and live only when ignition is on, th rest of the fused circuits ar permanently on),  but the problem is not using a piggy back connector into the fuse box ,but in getting the wiring from the fusebox . Possibly the best  option is to use a piggy back out of the fuse box and route the wiring up the driver side A pillar and across the top of the windscreen. But you will need a small 12v-5v adapter. Possibly an idea would be to disassemble the adapter and enclose the adapter in heatshrink, with the + side going to the piggy adapter, with a -ve to the car metalwork and the output going to the dash cam( hiding the module in the fuse compartment). Fusing- the smallest mini fuse available is 2A . However, DO not expect the dash cam in parking mode to catch any hit and run type accident. I had an incident recently where I had a van back into my front wing and the camera only started up after the incident.

Possibly....

Run power up the A pillar, possibly a new earth as well, or....

Tap in to the courtesy light wiring for both.

12V->5V power converter blob can loiter above the headlining.... Possibly zip tied or taped to something metal.

Thanks all, much appreciated.

I got the nextbase kit today as Im no good with wiring myself and have just fitted it.

It only took 10 mins or so. I ran the cable under the headliner above the driver, down the A pillar and into the fusebox using a piggyback connector from the kit into the reverse light fuse.

The only place it can be seen is a tiny bit at the bottom of the pillar but its nice & neat so Its fine for me.

It all seems ok, turns on with the ignition and switches off after a couple of minutes of turning off.

Cheers,

Rob

BUT-as I said- there's a BUMP function on the dashcam, where the dash cam comes on when the car is hit- perhaps in a hit & run. BUT this only works if the dashcam has a permanant feed. As I said after a chat with a nextbase tech, the camera is fit and forget .With a permanant feed it will switch on when you open the doors/set off and then go into standby after a short period of car being stationery. I've got my 322 on a permanant feed via the ciggie lighter and it wakes up when the doors are opened and shuts down a few minutes after  I park. The bump function is not perfect, but it will at last give you some protection. Me- I'd be looking at using a fuse that's live all of the time.

I'll add this link on this post for anyone looking to do likewise.

Add this to a tap onto the ciggie socket ( accessed under centre console ( screws under ashtray and under rear pull out on consol and it's a straight fish to under the dash, leading close to glovebox. site 12-5 adapter in glovebox and it's a straight up the side of screen to the top etc.
