I know it's been said before but...turbo in a Felicia

Featured Replies

There is a lot of questions on here about tuning the Felicia and whether to fit different engines or turbos or superchargers etc. etc.

I'm after a street sleeper and having thought a Favorit Turbo was the way to go (hence my name!), the wife has said she would not be seen dead in one. Now, I did think about killing her prior to going out in it anywhere so that she had no choice but of course I'd have to learn first aid to bring her round when we got there and frankly, I can't be arsed. A Felicia on the other hand, is considered by her to be adequately pleasant to look at but still ticks my box in terms of nobody thinking it could possibly be fast in a million years.

As I always do when starting a new project, research comes first. So I've got some questions for y'all which hopefully some techy Skoda boffin types will be able to help out with. I'm after the 1.3 model so no unhelpful comments like "change to a 1.6" or "sell it and buy a Fabia" please!

1. The 1.3 came in two types right? 68bhp high compression and 54bhp low compression. As I'll be needing a low compression ratio for the turbo I thought the 54bhp version would be preferable. The question is, what is it's compression ratio? I'm hoping it'll be around 8 or 8.5:1. Anyone got the Haynes manual?

2. Now I know that the 54bhp version came with the MPi system as I've seen them. I will obviously need to change the fuelling requirements and was wondering how easy this would be. Does anyone know what make this MPi is? I'm hoping it's Bosch!

3. The 54bhp engine is the "135" engine as opposed to the 68bhp "136" engine right? Well, does anyone know if there are any other differences in terms of engine strength between these two engines? Also, do they use different gearboxes?

4. If I up the power to around 115bhp or so will the gearbox and clutch take it? Anyone got a Felica 1.3 with that power (turbo or not) and a standard 'box and clutch?

5. As you can tell, my overall hope is that I can buy a 1.3 54bhp Felicia and just change the exhaust manifold to mount the turbo and fit all the plumbing (intercooler etc.) and then sort the ECU for fueling and away I go. Anyone got any other bits of information which might put a spanner in the works for this idea?

Thanks dudes!

* Reaches for the Haynes *

Engine code is 135 for low-compression/ 136 for High-compression with B (SPi) or M (MPi) stuck on the end. (eg you want a "135M")

compression ratios:

135 - 8.8:1

136 - 9.7:1

The SPi uses a bosch mono-motronic fuel system. The MPi uses a Simos 2P.

Hope that helps - I'm going to sleep.

Research continues.... I've found someone who has done it before! Check out:

I've tried running the text thru one of those free internet translation services but it just comes out with crap and the odd word in English. Anyone know Czech?

Looks like the VAG side mounted intercooler has been used to good effect.

OK, I think the best option may be:

1) Convert the PDF to HTML or Text (via the free service on the Adobe website).

2) Then find a Czech - English translator to work through the text.

I had problems finding a good translator, though there are plenty out there to try and you may have to resort to line by line translation...

Failing that, perhaps your local library or college might be able to put you in touch with someone (or possibly even your local authority, if they have a translation service for their Social Care team perhaps??).

Good luck,

Hewesy

Surly it would be cheaper/simpiler to find a polo 1.6/golf 1.8 gti engine find a crow bar and fit it with the gear box also comming from the doner car then you will also be able to tell the insurace company that u ave fitted the breaks from said doner car as they will probally have to be uprated to cope with double the bhp!! any you will also be safe in the knolage that the soner drivetrain wont snap! or suffer from the common problem of turbo bang!

just an idea!

is it possible to fit a small turbo to an S reg mkII felicia diesel??

is it possible to fit a small turbo to an S reg mkII felicia diesel??

yes. but it would probably be better to just find a turbo diesel engine and put the whole thing in.

Hi!

the czech-english translator won't help you much - you will need slovakian-english translator (if you can't find any PM me).

Anyway, i have seen one 1,6 turbo felicia here in Slovakia... See the picture in attachment.

Real question is, why are you interested in Felicia turbo after all?

Absolutely every car can be equipped with turbo, question remains is it worth the trouble and money while you can buy a car with stock turbo much cheaper...

Holy Thread Revival Batman!!!

Holy Thread Revival Batman!!!

I was thinking that when I saw this pop up earlier

Anywho I would still advise anybody to just chuck a different engine in there, if you are he'll bent on making it go fast and are handy with e welding sticks it's not that difficult to make any engine fit in a felicia, it's got a massive engine bay considering the size of the car.. It doesn't have to be turbocharged either, something like a cavalier redtop xe engine would go in there a treat. The 1.8t engine is a fairly easy fit too with some minor body modifications

Yeah, I know AwesomeGTi have got a VR6 into a felly. These days, subject to local availability (The reserectionist is in Egypt) I'd suggest that a 1.8T is the big power weapon of choice.

a remote turbo charger could save you a few quid on intercooler etc etc

so fit a turbo much further down the exhaust system... say in place of the centre box, then the length of piping needed to bring the air back up to the engine is cool enough without a intercooler...

and don't go thinking there will be any extra lag.

http://www.torquecars.com/tuning/remote-turbo-kits.php

i like many others here think that if you want over 100bhp the best way to go is engine conversion. though a VR6 would make a felicia handle like crap without sustantial chassis and suspension mods to deal with the very heavy and way way too thirsty 2.8ltr engine.

even a 1.8t will unset the balance slightly..

if you really want a mega sleeper i would suggest a bike engine and strip the car... if ur bugdet allows a 1300cc 160bhp hiyabusa engine would be very very interesting and give any 1.8t be it 150 or 225 bhp a run for it's money.

The 1.6 can be turboed seems like
Reliability though i dont know

@Thefeliciahacker - Anything not already turboed can be; Whether or not it is worthwhile depends on costs and resultant power and reliability, and hence partly on your ability to perform development, fabricate new manifolds...

For instance, there is a turbo kit for the Mazda MX-5, but you could buy a Felly for every day of the week for the cost of that kit (UK prices).

I smell male bovine feces! Even with twin DCOs (no actual direct benefit unless the owner has an 8 port head fitted which they may do based on the twin centre branch exhaust manifold) no-one ever got that much out of a 130 (UK rolling road verified installed flywheel power)!

Maybe not 140hp, but the webers aren't the only mods on it.

Perhaps its too much for a reliable daily car, this one is a track car.
