Car Stereo compatible with parking sensors.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I've just purchased a 58 plate Skoda Octavia 2.0 manual TDI estate. The spec is Laurin & Klement and the car is fitted with the below stereo. As a result I don't think they are compatible with the factory fitted rear parking sensors and as such they don't work.

Please can someone advise on an aftermarket one that is compatible or should I stick with a Skoda original. Thank you.

Hi James, most of the Xtron range of aftermarket head units are meant to be fully compatible with everything on the car from door opening alarms to temperature dislays etc .... The only issue they have is often they show the passenger (left) doors open when it's the drivers (right) that's actually open but it's easily adjusted in the settings albeit you often require a code to get into the settings .... They're also meant to fully compatible with all Mk2s from 2004-13

At £145 that stereo is on the lower end of the scale, I'd be suspicious of its performance and functionality. It doesn't look as though it's running Android like the usual offerings do.

With that in mind I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't offer proper canbus integration. If you want an aftermarket stereo with navigation and canbus, the Chinese android ones are pretty good if you can get one with the latest processor and a decent amount of ram. I bought an X-trons px6 with 4gb ram a couple of months ago and I'm very happy with it.

Ok I found the stereo on amazon:

The bad news is it's running WinCE (pile-o-poo) which explains why it's so cheap.

The good news is that the listing states it does support Canbus integration, so that suggests it hasn't been installed properly, or perhaps it's faulty. Have you had the unit out to see if the canbus adaptor is plugged in?

Hi Chris. Yes I thought at £145 it would be pretty naff. I have no idea what you mean by Canbus but I'm assuming you mean it should be compatible with parking sensors etc.

All the steering wheel buttons work, Bluetooth etc but no parking display or sensors work. I'll get the unit out tomorrow to see if there are any wires loose anywhere.

Canbus is the networks of computer systems in the car. The stereo will connect into it to display things like door open warnings, climate control data, and of course parking sensors.

Do the sensors give off the audible warning beeps? Could be you have a faulty OPS system if the other features are working as intended.

No I have absolutely nothing. I put the car into reverse and there is no beep, no nothing. Thanks

PS what's an OPS system? Thanks

I have the same(ish) unit, same price, had same problem, I did not realise it was WIN CE and it is a pile of poo.

Heater controls dont show and still dont.

Parking sensors started displaying when I connected up a reversing camera, before all I had were the beeps.

Unit has/had multiple problems, would take all night to write, always crashing especially when using the virtual CD or when reversing, after readinh someone elses comments I now know whats causing the problems.

The unit works perfectly without any problems.

The satnav works perfectly on its own without any problems.

Unit will crash and give nothing but grief as soon as the Satnav simcard is plugged in.

Now I know why they said that the satnav was "FREE" :speechless:

With the satnav sim disengaged I have a fully working system other than the Bluetooth requests pairing with the phone every journey.

When I need the satnav i push the card in and use it and dont use any of the other functions except the reversing camera will probably cause it to reboot a few times.

Car will be sold soon, I will buy a better unit next time.

I don't have quite so many issues with it.

Heater doesn't show on the screen but didn't think it had to?

I have the same issue re Bluetooth requiring pairing every journey which is a right pain in the backside. Why doesn't it remember?

Think I'll swop it out. I just don't want to be in the same position again if I swop it to another aftermarket one and not a genuine Skoda unit.

Sounds like you have two problems, the headunit is a bit rubbish, and your parking sensors aren't working.

OPS is optical parking system (ie it displays the distances on the stereo), but i think it should still give you the audible warning even if your stereo isn't displaying the visual bit.

Can you get a vcds scan?

As said on your other thread, I have a couple of genuine Columbus units here which would be a direct fit. Fitting and coding is free if you come here.

Please could you tell me how much this would cost? Thank you.

Prices depend on if you want a DAB unit or a standard unit, and whether or not you join Freedom membership or stay as a standard member. DAB unit would be as per this thread.

Click me.

Standard unit would be somewhat cheaper but I'd need to check in the workshop to see what it actually is, work on £300  as a Freedom member for a guide price.

Went on a journey today and every time I restarted the engine my phone would get a Bluetooth pairing request and everytime that the unit rebooted itself because the Shatnav was working.

As I am such a numptie it might even be a setting on my phone that I need to change, never used Bluetooth before, my runners watch has it and other than sometimes not syncing it never asks for the code again, same with the credit card reader, its maybe asked to be re-paired once a year.

Like you I am sold on the benefits of these head units but dont want to buy another crap one.

What has been a real game-changer for me is something that I would never have wanted nor could see the point of, the reversing camera, I was bored and it was cheap but it is so so good and when the Shatnav is not making it reboot with a windows box filled out with a Chinese sick note it even takes the steering angle data from the Canbus and displays the trajectory box, its such a wide angle view I can see when my towball is about to touch the vehicle behind, another red grid line tells me how close I can get to the garage door and still open the tailgate.

finally the birds eye view for the door open warning image is my exact car, estate version and colour!!!!
