Winter Wheels & Tyres

They will, thats what I have 17"  original wheels and tyres for summer, and 16" with 16" winter tyres for winter.

And the speedo  digital display stays exactly the same to within 1km/hr at a true calibrated 70mph using a speed app so the rolling radius must be nearly identical.

Only proviso is that you must tell the insurance company

you reckon?

Yes I do, it is recorded in the special conditions on my policy document as a change to the standard specification of the car, and I am even supposed to tell them the day I put them on and the day I take them off again.

Fitting winter tyres to me is a safety measure, but some drivers may venture out in very bad conditions because they are fitted so increases the risk to the insurance company.

If you have them fitted, have a claim, and haven't informed the company, it will be very easy for them to walk away and refuse the claim.

You just can't mix and match 16 and 17 rims and tyres together to make one wheel, it's one or the other.

I presume you mean on one axle?

If so you are incorrect as the spare wheel is a 16", and the Law says you are allowed if the wheel is marked with a specific sticker, and it is only used in an emergency and to get you to a place of safety where the correct wheel and tyre can be fitted.

You can't put 16" tyres on 17" rims (wheels) or 17" tyres on 16" rims (wheels). That is the point not that you couldn't put a 16" tyre/wheel on the car when the other tyre/wheels were 17". The spare is 16" anyway.

Just to clear up any further confusion over who's buying what....

I've promised to buy the steel wheels with winter tyres fitted. I'll be collecting them in a couple of weeks, and will of course stand by my promise - Expatman has generously now offered me the other 16" tyres to buy as well, which I have taken him up on his offer. I will use them on the steel wheels next summer, as I will have the steel wheels fitted over winter, and knowing the amount of miles I do may well wear them out in that time.

Thanks for all the comments.
