Use third party for annual service

Featured Replies

My Kodiaq Edition (7 seats) 1.5 TSI 150 PS DSG is due its first service.

The service we received at our local Skoda dealer when we were planning on buying a car lat year was very disappointing. I vowed then never to return.

The dealer I bought the car from is quite a distance away and do not offer a collect and deliver service.

Grateful for views of the benefits -- disadvantages of using a provider such as Service Stop for this maintenance.

Many thanks

The service of the sales team may not reflect the service department.

I would have it main dealer serviced if under warranty. And surely your chosen dealer will service it while you wait although it may take a few hours.

an independent may charge a bit less but not a lot compared to your depreciation and other costs.

Just my opinion of course.

As above, defo main dealer service whilst under warranty. Not that main dealers are renowned for high quality work mind you, they do tend to take better care of you if you bought the car from them. Also you will miss out on vehicle updates and corrosion warranty checks etc plus I would recon main dealer will chase you if you go back for warranty claims after having had the car serviced elsewhere.

Only way I would consider an independent mechanic would be if I knew them personally and trusted them.

Whilst in warranty, stick with main dealer

My experience is the older family owned smaller dealers (rather fewer of them now) seemed to do a much better job.  Unfortunately Skoda has been replacing them with big out of town dealers with glass showrooms, and a indifferent quality of servicing work.

There are some quite big geographical gaps now, especially if you get a bad experience and rule out nearest dealer.

Maybe my memory is going but I am sure a decade ago Skoda said it had 200 dealers in UK, but at least half of those no longer exist.  Where I live 4 dealers within 7 miles have gone.

Thank you all for your comments.

Very helpful.

I note your comments regarding warranty and updates..

I've decided to go for the fixed service schedule and to use the local Skoda dealer.

They offer a pick up and delivery service.

So I'll see how it goes

Once again thank you for all your advice.
