So... Just now i had my car parked for a while after i drove to work without power steering. Now i started the car and it idled for about 5 minutes. All of a sudden the PAS light turned off and everything works again for the full drive... Curious what happens if i start the car again later.

The pump electronics have gone intermittent, this is how mine was until it completely stopped working.

I just ordered a new (used) pump. They go as low as 55 pounds on ebay used so figured its not too bad. When i drove back after the PAS was working it didnt work anymore untill half way it started working again and stayed that way till the destination.

Seems very unlikely to me that this can be caused by wiring, though its not impossible. Ill swap the pump first, if that doesnt fix it, will start digging into wiring again.

Thanks for all the help so far. Will report back when the pump is swapped :)

I'd just like the thank those involved in this post for their efforts. I've been running diagnosis on a similar fault on  a mate's wife's car and the current flow diagram from the OP and Wino's advice have been a huge help in getting to the next stage. Now need to dig out the continuity tester.

How did you get on - was it a pump failure?
