Will 312mm vRS brakes fit on a SE L TDI?

Featured Replies

Hi as the title  surgests would the 312mm brakes off the front of the diesel mk3 vRS fit on to a mk3 SE L diesel. Im assumeing that a set of 312 carriers and the callipers and the metal shield behind the hub would be all that i need.

If your car has the 288mm front discs & the caliper has the 57mm piston, then you only need to swap the caliper carrier bracket & the disc......as the rest is the same..I did this to my car..

What engine do you have?

vRS fronts from Octavia III are 340 mm, not 312. You can make the difference quite easy - the 340 mm are painted from the factory.

This isn’t true, only petrol vRS front brakes are consistently 340mm, from 2016 onward the diesel vRS got 312mm front brakes.

To the OP yes you can fit bigger brakes, whether 312, 340 or something more exotic to your car no problem 😉

The easiest upgrade if the OP has the 288mm discs with 57mm piston caliper is to swap the caliper carrier & disc from the 312mm setup..as the rest is the same as standard spec 312mm set up...

otherwise if you want 340mm size discs:-

then fit the Audi TTS 4 pot calipers which are one piece inc bracket & made by ATE...but have no slots to remove the pads....

or fit the Porsche Macan (3lt) 4 pots which are two piece & made by Brembo & have pad removal slots......

both of the above are a direct bolt onto the MQB Golf/A3/Octavia struts ..& you can use standard or CSS 340mm front discs....& they will fit under some 17"  aftermarket alloys without spacers....if you wish...

I went with the DB9 setup but if I knew I wanted 340mm discs again for sure I would have gone TTS 8S 4 pots for cost reasons and I feel they would be just as good as the DB9 setup. These were cheap enough to make them worthwhile though.

Wow! This is a very unpleasant surprise...

both SashaGrace and fabdavrav have given good suggestions. I would add few more options:

320 mm audi floating - bigger diameter of disk and 57 mm piston

345 mm floating from Audi - bigger diameter of disk and 60 mm piston

340-345 mm 4 pot brembos with custom adapters

320 OR 345 mm 4 pot brembos from Audi

6 piston fixed calipers from S4 B9 with 360 mm discs

2 piston floating calipers with 360 mm discs.....

The pros of the 4+ piston calipers compared to the floating ones is the highly reduced weight and better pedal feel and response. The main disadvantage is that if you have stock wheels you will need spacers or you have to change to aftermarket wheels.

Good luck with modding :)

There is if he has standard wheels and does not want to change wheels or add spacers.

Very few brake setups fit behind standard Skoda wheels, VW and Audi offsets are more forgiving however.

There is that. I need 20mm behind my 7.5x19 ET51 Xtreme’s. No biggie though and they look good now haha

Thanks for the reply peeps. After toting up the price for the mods I wanted to do to my SE L I decided that the difference in price wasnt too far off geting a 2nd hand vRS. So I have traded my SE L in and got myself a 2018 Octy vRS Diesel with DSG and 4 wheel drive. Should be picking it up in a couple of weeks.
